Jose Lima looked bad last night. He couldn't get any groundballs and the Twinkies hitters were pounding the ball off him. Luckily that night the 'pen saved it for KC. Today Kevin Appier only lasted 2 innings due to elbow tightness. His velocity has gone down bigtime. The fastest pitch he threw in the 2 innings of work was 86 MPH.
I'm still pulling for KC but i'm just wondering how that overworked bullpen is going to hold up down the stretch especially since the rotation is banged up. Offensively right now the Royals are not showing up.
The Twins look like they have fire in their bellies and are going to make a late season charge for the Central crown. Johan Santana was SMOKIN! today. Shannon Stewart is the MVP of the club since he's come over there. I have to believe it's the combination of a playoff run and new surroundings that is sparking this great play. Today he hit in his 20th multiple hit game in 36 games as a Twin. Look out for these guys down the stretch.
ChiSox lost today but they've been playing inspired ball and I have to believe that Frank Thomas will be the AL Comeback player. They have the toughest schedule of the 3 teams in the Central and are going to NY right now. I think that they'll need luck and good play to win the Central.
So right now i'm thinking it's either going to be the Twins in a surprise surge or the Royals barely hanging on.
What do you guys think?
