Selig is a joke with the World Series start times
Last year he said he wanted to make the starting times of the games earlier. This year all the week night games start at 7:57 which is earlier but the Saturday game starts at 7. I don't get why they don't have all the games start at 7 but why have the earliest game on a weekend????

Re: Selig is a joke with the World Series start times
You do realize if the Giants make the World Series, a 7pm eastern start time would be 4pm in San Francisco?
The world doesn't revolve around the stupid east coast time zone.7 National Championships
43 Conference Championships
152 All-Americans
5 Heisman Trophy Winners
#1 in weeks ranked #1 in AP Poll
#1 in weeks ranked top 5 in AP Poll
#1 in wins/winning percentage since 1946

Re: Selig is a joke with the World Series start times
This whole discussion pops up every year and its ridiculous. Staying up an hour or two more for potentially 7 days is not a big deal, even for kids. It's the freakin' World Series for crying out loud.Comment

Re: Selig is a joke with the World Series start times
Well, lets say the game ends at 11:30pm ET. By the time you get to bed and everything it'll be 12am ET. I think suffering through five hours of sleep for potentially seven nights is no big deal. I don't know. What else are you gonna do, start the games at 6pm ET, so that people on the West Coast miss the entire game before they come home from work? **** that.Comment

Re: Selig is a joke with the World Series start times
I'd be curious to know what % of east coasters turn off the game before it ends to hit the sack. Obviously, if the Yankee's or Phillies are on, every fan is going to watch until the end, but if the Rays and Rangers are the late game, how many of those same people are still watching at 11:30 at night.
My only thought is if I'm going to miss 3 innings of a game (an hour or so), I'd rather miss the first three than the last three. So with that being said, I'd rather a game start at 4:00 (7:00 ET) on the west coast so everyone can see the end of the game if the alternative is that the game ends at 11:30 or 12:00 on the east coast and have the people shut it off before the ending.
I read something years ago and don't remember who said it, but thought it was pretty impactful about the late starts on the east coast (back when games used to start at 8:00 ET, which was really 8:15 ET) and it went something like: Millions of young NY Yankee fans will never get to see one of the greatest post season pitcher of all time (Rivera) because they are fast asleep before he ever takes the mound.
Obviously a bit of a reach, but still holds some weight.
How many are going to stay up until 11:30 or 12:00 tonight to watch the end of the Braves and Giants who are not Braves and Giants fans.Comment
