Choo wants a "transfer" to a winning team

Shin-Soo Choo, the Indians' best player, is quoted in the Korea Times that he prefers to "transfer" to a team that wins more.

Indians right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is quoted in a Korean newspaper that he would prefer a "transfer" to team that wins more. GM Chris Antonetti said Choo is passionate about winning in Cleveland and isn't going anywhere.

Don't worry Choo. Soon you'll be too expensive for the Dolans and you'll be traded to the Yankees for a couple of minor leaguers.

Does he have arbitration this year?

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Eh, can't say I blame him. While there's a good number of teams in the saddening state that the Indians are in, I feel they're the furthest away from competing in all of baseball. The Royals/Pirates/Orioles all have young talent upcoming, or already there and developing, that could change their franchises around, or at least make them competitive/entertaining. The Indians have...nothing. They had two Cy Young pitchers, traded them, and have nothing to show for it. LaPorta has done nothing, and he's not exactly a young prospect anymore. Carlos Santana is about the only bright spot, depending on how Grady comes back. Really, if Grady comes back okay, he'd make the most sense as trade bait.

WTF did this team sign Kerry Wood for?

Actually, it's not. A .300 average with 20 homers and 20 HR's and one of the strongest RF arms is a pretty good player.

If I could only describe the "best" player on my team as "pretty good", I'd be pretty depressed about my team.

Oh, he's a good player... but look at every other team's "best player" (even looking at pitchers) and tell me that's not depressing.

In other words, no wonder he wants out.

Cleveland is in a rebuilding process right now. He just so happens to be the teams best all around player. There are a lot of players in the system that have the potential to be great. I'm an Indians fan, and I'm not depressed. I know what's going on. We are rebuilding. It happens. I believe your Giants have been rebuilding since 02 to get where they are right now.

And just to clear some of this up. This whole thing may be bad translation, or just mis-quotation. Apparently, Choo has told new Indians GM Chris Antonetti that he doesn't want to go anywhere. Antonetti also stated that he is interested in signing Choo to a long term deal.

The Indians have no intention to trade Choo. He has 3 more years until he is a free agent.

But if Choo did get traded , would he take a train out of town?

But their best player had been (and still could be) Barry Bonds.

I don't think Choo would want to go anywhere anyway, same with Ichiro. I know they want to be on winning teams, but the accommodations they have and what they are used to will be most comfortable for them. I don't care if I've been in Japan for ten years, I would just want to stick with what I'm used to if possible.

Bonds Probably would still be their best player.

Cleveland just couldn't handle another superstar/great player leaving. I tend to believe our GM over some reporter from Korea. I don't think Choo wants to go anywhere.

You know what bugs me though? Whats up with all these players wanting to leave and go to winning teams? What happened to helping your current team become a winning team. Baseball is already plagued by lack of parity as it is. Soon the only winning teams will be in cities will a good club scene.

That's true. I dunno ...the Pistons do OK in Detroit, I hear that's a crummy place to be.

Choo is a solid player with a gun of an arm. Ya know, Cleveland was pretty good only like 3-4 years ago before they let everyone go and Hafner & Sizemore kept getting injured.
