    thoughts?

not looking to start anything and sound too much like a "Reds fan", but I think Votto deserved the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger, but that Pujols got them on reputation.
also, I think you could make a compelling case for Victor Martinez over Joe Mauer.

What, Jeter did not make it?

Victor and Mauer was close, even though Victor had 20 HRs where Mauer was way down with 9. But Mauer led in just about every category other than a slightly lower slugging.

I think there was an argument with David Ortiz as well for DH.

    Ortiz: .270/.370/.529 with 32 homers, 36 doubles and 102 RBIs. OPS+ of 137

    Guerrero: .300/.345/.496 with 29 homers, 27 doubles and 115 RBIs. OPS+ of 122

OBP and slugging should count for more than batting average and RBIs (it is a slugger award after all not batting average award). OPS is a pretty good stat as well. Ortiz was at .899 and Vlad at .841.

it's okay that Pujols wins the SS and GG

it just makes the NL MVP Award announcement more sweeter

I'm a little surprised to see Votto not get a SS. If he doesn't get the MVP either then i'll just shake my fist and curse out the writers. The guy deserves SOME hardware.

Least he won the Hank Aaron award.

I agree. He should have the MVP then.

But seeing how Pujols won SS AND MVP last year, this does not bode well.

He lead in OPS, OBP, Slugging, etc. And was matching Pujols in every other stat. We will see though.

Votto winning the Hank Aaron but not the SS is silly. He'll win MVP pretty handily, though.

I think the thing Votto has working for him in the MVP race (over Pujols & CarGo) is that his team actually made the playoffs BECAUSE of his play.

Very good point. He should definitely win the MVP this year!

This really doesn't make any sense. Pujols' and Votto's numbers were very similar. That being said, how did the Reds make the playoffs BECAUSE of Joey Votto? Wouldn't you think if the teams were to be the same outside of them that the Cardinals would have won the division? The Reds had a much more complete team than the Cardinals did, which helped them win the division over the Cards.

                    Phillips > Schumaker
                    Cabrera > Ryan
                    Rolen > Freese/Feliz/Lopez
                    Hernandez > Molina
                    Bruce > Jay/Ludwick
                    Gomes < Matt Holliday
Stubbs < Rasmus (kind of a wash here)

While the Cardinals' top three was better than the Reds', they didn't win the division because of lack of depth in the pitching that the Reds' had.

I'd take the Reds' chances without Votto over the Cards without Pujols any day of the week. Pujols means way more to his team than Votto does to his.

Thats like saying Roy Halladay should win the Cy Young because his team made the playoffs because of his pitching. They made the playoff because they had a very solid all-around team.

I think what you should have said was this:

"I think the thing Votto has working for him in the MVP race is that his team made the playoffs."

Not saying that's how it should work, but that's a bigger factor than what you stated mainly because what you stated isn't necessarily true.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

that's what I meant. looking back, I honestly have no clue why I even said "because of his play", as that implies that Pujols & CarGo hindered their teams and kept them out of the playoffs.
