http://socialanxietydisorder.about.c...ackgreinke.htm (basically saying the obvious that yes an athelte well known has had it, overcame to do great things)
    http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/019327.php (another 07 article)
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...nke/index.html (old story that states the obvious. He won the cy young the year after this article was put out)
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseb...-Greinke_N.htm (Talks about how he beat it in 2007. He won the Cy young in 2008. Last known incident in 2006)

Nothing real special here other than supporting arguments that support what I said above. If this is an issue for yall, I guess you think josh hamilton is on the street selling and usin dope still cause he cant beat the addiction that is "supposedly" imposible to overcome.

Well to get back on topic. As a Rangers fan this is tough for me. I want Lee but I dont know about giving him 7 years. 7 years is a long, long time.

As for Grienke, I love the guy, he's one of people I trade for in The Show but I dont know if I want to give up the prospects for him. KC is going to want a lot and I think they will ask for Perez and Tanner among with someone else.

I guess it doesnt matter which one they get, as long as they get one of them.

Yea, I agree. Cliff Lee is who I would want for about 3 more years, but 7 is tough for me to swallow. You almost have to look at the return of investment on a player like that. Your getting the best that player can offer for about 3 to 4 more years and then he might have hit his peak in terms of what hes gonna do. Along with the prospects for grienke, that too is a tough pill to swallow...however you get a younger pitcher with better stuff reportoire wise, and if a 7 year deal is renegotiated with him thats fine because it will carry him to that peak IMO. Rangers are trying to win NOW, and the problem with the rangers is...now they have convinced everyone in the land that they cna in fact go to the big dance. They can win playoff games vs big name teams. So now the rangers are kinda of forced to have a big name pitcher at the top of the rotation. Rangers just offered Lee a slew of deals and from what the ESPN article says, it matches up with the yankees offer. Interesting read. If nothing else, I would sign Lee just so the Yankees dont try and buy another ring. Loved how we stuck it to em last year with the LEe trade, loved that boston got crawford, and would love it if the Yanks dont get Lee or Grienke!

I wouldn't feel comfortable giving Lee anything more than 5 years. Sure signing him to a 7 year deal may be worth it in the short term, but if the Yankees do have sign him to a 7 year deal they're are going to have a couple of terrible contracts in the future to deal with.

Lee is in his 30's seeking a 7 year deal. For that, how do you not go with Greinke in this situation? Pending you can resign him upon trade, I'd go with it. Even if you trade for two years of him, who's to say Lee doesn't fall off in two years anyways?

Who are the Royals targeting anyways? Just pitching prospects?

Re: Rangers: Cliff Lee vs. Zack Grienke (My Debate for which to sign)

That doesn't sound too bad, given what other elite pitchers have gone for the past few years. Two good pitching prospects and a good position player prospect. Royals need all of the above. It's probably not outside the realm of possibility to do BOTH moves if you're the Rangers. Imagine signing Lee AND trading for Greinke? Maybe just showing that you're putting together a badass rotation like that, would be an incentive for Lee to come back instead of taking NY's money.

If you made the WS last year, I think you can justify throwing out a couple of prospects for an already Cy Young pitcher, who is in his prime. While still trying to grab another Cy Young pitcher who is also in his prime.

Cliff Lee, so the Rangers can hang onto the young arms that would be required to get Grienke. Also not sold on Zack's ability to pitch in the big games given his personal struggles.

And if they Rangers overpay on Lee, they have enough depth in the farm system to get cost-controlled arms and players around his big salary without cutting them off at the knees.

Anxiety disorder is no joke...Cliff Lee about once every 3 years seems to get injured. Grienke should be cheaper, but truly, there's no way I'm giving any pitcher a 7 year deal. If I did, I would rather Lee because with his pitching style (in my view), he's more likely to be successful at the back of that contract.

That being said, unless you think you can get to a WS this year, too, I wouldn't trade and then sign Greinke to a long contract. I'd let him pitch for me on his old contract, and then work on an extension next year.

I don't want to overstate the obvious, but I think you go Lee till he is off the books because you still leave the window of pulling off Greinke too. When the window is open you always play to win. When the window closes then you worry about not offering up 7 year contracts, and cutting back.

From what I've heard, Greinke would cost the Rangers some key prospects, including Jurickson Profar, Tanner Scheppers, and Neftali Feliz. I don't think I would be willing to part with those guys. With Lee, you are guaranteeing three to four great years with a few mediocre seasons, and you get to keep your young guys.

They will want Perez, not feliz. There's no way they give up feliz in that deal.
