...well, of course they want him. What team doesn't? But it's all just speculation right now. Most of the talk got started (locally, at least) by a couple of Seattle Times writers.

Being a Mariners fan, I would never want to see Felix Hernandez get traded. The kid is 24 and just won a Cy Young award. He has had a sub 2.5 ERA over the past two years in the hitter friendly American League. If he would have been on the Yankees last year, the guy would have won anywhere from 22-25 games.

Like I said, for all the reasons above, I wouldn't want the Mariners to trade him, but he's on a perennial 90-100 loss team and the Mariners as an organization need an influx of talent. The cupboard is pretty bare in Seattle, with the exception of a few prospects like Justin Smoak, Dustin Ackley, Michael Pineda and Nick Franklin. Ichiro is still producing at a great level but he's getting older, and there are really no other positional players that a team could build around.

I'm thinking a package from the Yankees would have to start with Robinson Cano, Phil Hughes and Jesus Montero. It sounds like a lot and it is, but Felix is arguably the best pitcher in the game and he is young.

Again, one last time... I don't want it to happen, but being a Mariners fan, our system and team could really be bolstered by moving him.

I really hope this doesnt happen and I think the Yankees would have to give up way too much for them to do it. Also doesnt Felix like being in Seattle?

I think he does like Seattle, yes.

The Yankees would have to give up a lot, but that's to be expected... Hernandez is a very rare breed.

I don't see him moving really. Unless Jack Z gets blown away by an offer. Couple years ago, Boston gave Seattle list of 8 prospects and chose them to 5, Seattle declined and that was after Seattle lost 101 games.

Would the Mariners want Cano? He's making $10 million next year, and then has team options of $14 and $15 million the 2 years after that. Doubt the Yankees would trade him either, he's one of their few young position players.

Every team wants him expect for the Mets because we are just fine with the team we have now and although we are in NY the team has no money :-( It is going to be a loooong year for us Mets fans.

I'm sure they'd be willing to put both Hughes and Montero in a deal, but trading Cano doesn't necessarily put them in a better position than where they are already. They had the best record in baseball last year and were within just a few games of the World Series and Cano was arguably the best player on the team for that run.

I heard the Phillies are offering the entire AAA squad for Felix. Assuming they can strike a deal with Krispy Kreme for Joe Blanton, they might be able to pay him too.

No way the Yankees will trade Cano, Jeter/ARod are both getting ancient, Cano is their only legit young elite player. They'd settle for a lesser rotation than getting rid of Cano.

I don't see why this is such an issue. They were a highly successful team last year, with AJ Burnett being awful. They have so many millions tied to their pitching staff, if AJ Burnett pitches like he's supposed to, all of these trade talks are irrelevant.

With all the good prospects/players out there, Seattle could do a helluva lot better than a Yankees package.

It's the Yankee Way... and no, I am not trying to start a debate nor am I trying to incite Yankee fans. It just seems that when they miss out on a big name (Cliff Lee), they turn around and try to make a bigger splash. Maybe things are different since the Big Boss passed, but the rumors starting flying about the Yankees and Felix last week.

What's funny is that in his contract, Felix has a list of 10 teams that he absolutely does not want to get traded to and the Yankees are one of those teams. I think he just enjoys dominating them so much.

The Yankees would be foolish to deal Cano, Hughes and Montero in a package for Felix. While he is and will continue to be great, that's a hefty package.

I've said all along that I don't want Felix to get traded... But of course the rumors were out there so I didn't see any harm in starting this thread.

I don't think you quite understand the point of his no-trade protection. The Yankees (and the other 9 biggest markets) are on his list for a reason and it's not because he would never want to pitch there.

Seattle has all the leverage in any kind of negotiations. I'd want Montero, Cano and Joba for King Felix.
