    Re: Pirates Fans!!

While I agree with TheTruth, I also disagree to a point. Yeah, Ollie's inconsistent, but he does have a lot of talent. I agree that you can't really say he's a good/great pitcher yet because everything is based on talent. He COULD be a great pitcher, but he has to be more consistent. He's LH which is a big plus and throws 95+ which is another plus. However, it doesn't mean jack unless he's consistent and shows he won't walk 3+ hitters every game...

On a sidenote, he pitched very well today, but his previous start he went 2.2 IP and walked 6 hitters. So we've seen how good he can be and how bad he can be.

I'm a Pirate fan and we need him to step up and become a frontline pitcher in the next year or 2. Otherwise, this team is in for further losses. If 11 years of straight losing isn't enough, I don't know what is. By the looks of it, it might be much longer (unless many things pan out). I hate to say it, but if the Pirates endure another 5+ years of losing, they won't be in PGH anymore. That'll be a shame since the Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the older baseball franchises in MLB.

I really hope it doesn't come to having to move the Pirates, but I agree if the Pirates dont start showing something soon they may not be in Pittsburgh anymore. Even with the new stadium, they are still losing money and with no playoff money in sight I dont know how much longer they will keep the team there.

Well, let's see... I never said he was an All-Star. Basically, all I said was he's young and he's bound to screw up at times. I never said the kid was perfect. But come on, he was once a Padre... and now that he's a Pirate, I'm not supposed to keep track of him or say something good about him cuz he had ONE good outing? Am I supposed to bash him? Is the cup half full or half empty? Seriously, I don't get it. All I said was he looked good out there. Did I compare him to Pedro or Randy? I just said he looked focused from what I saw.

Like I said, I'm a big Perez fan but that doesn't mean that I'm blind to his shortcomings. That doesn't mean that I turn my head and ignore his bad outings, cuz he DEFINITELY has more BAD OUTINGS than he has good ones. For every 13 K performance he puts up, he is liable to give up 7 runs in an inning and a third. I'm not blind to that. He still has alot more work to do to become a "solid" starter, but that doesn't mean I can't point out the positives I saw today.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a myopic Padres or Perez fan. I've seen him pitch just like you guys have seen him pitch.

I dont think they would move a franchise that is beloved by its fans and has been around for a long time.

Say does anybody who the LA Rams open the season against?

The LA Rams were never "beloved" there were a lot of hangers on following the team back then even when they were good for a stretch in the late 70s thru the mid 80s.

As for PGH losing the Pirates, I'd hate to see it as it's one of the most traditional baseball cities in all of America. The problem has been that they're in a small market and management has really let the fans down.

BTW there are only 2 cities I can think of that are viable cities to put MLB in. Portland OR and the DC/virginia area. Other then that there are really no places to put a ball club in. MLB has really over-expanded to the point that there are no viable locations anymore.
