The umpires used to get far more abuse back in the day then they do now. The reason why managers and players get fined for big blowouts/contact is because of that. There should be some modicum of respect toward the umpire instead of cursing the guy out.

Re: Fines for arguing???
That upmpire is a MORON and missed a blatent call 2 feet in front of his face..... In a crucial game....He should be evaluated by the league, and should be fined for his actions, and incompetence.... These morons need something in place, to let them know their actions, will not go over looked!!!!

Re: Fines for arguing???
I'll bet that UMP feels like an *** after viewing a little tape and watching SPORTSCENTER!!!!!
The idiot cost the Cubs a "possible" sweep...
That was one of the worse officiating jobs I have ever seen.."As a series"...and that goes for both teams...Comment

Re: Fines for arguing???
How quickly we forget about the dropped ball call on Albert Pujols the game before.
Look, both were bad calls and both cost the respective teams a win. It evened out.
And as far as the Alou hit being obvious...try getting out of the way of a smash line drive hit directly at you from roughly 100 feet and then try to make a judgement on it when it lands two feet behind you.
Especially, when it took the Cubs broadcast crew two replays and still had to freeze the stinking thing to see the 10 grains of chalk that bounced up.
Yeah, it was a no-brainer.Comment

Bitter? No. Just defending the "idiot". It wasn't an easy call being in the position he was in.
Besides, it sounds like you're the one that's bitter by accusing the ump of costing the Cubs a series.Comment
