Bonderman prob. won't lose 20 as he was taken out of the starting rotation last week by Trammell. As for Maroth's 20th loss, i agree, not a huge deal, but still newsworthy none the less. No one has done it in 23 years or so, and it has become an issue for the past couple seasons as no manager has allowed a pitcher to start in a game that would be his 20th loss (save for one instance). but yes, not a 'record' per se.

I have to stick up for Maroth here.. as a Tiger fan.

Alright - anyone remember when he took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, and still got the loss!? You can't exactly blame that on him, as he held the other team, but his offense didn't do jack for him.. The same has been true on many occasions, so you can't exactly blame it all on Maroth for losing 20 games.

            Look at it this way:

I saw a graphic last night that listed pitchers that lost 20 games since 1974. Most of the pitchers were good pitchers.

            Mickey Lolich
            Jery Kooseman
            Phil Niekro (twice!)

So if anything Maroth's future is bright. He will be a decent pitcher in the big leagues.

They have made such a big deal about this over the years, every time someone gets close to 20 losses, while i'm not glad that it happend to Mike Maroth, i am however glad that it happend, if it happens to a pitcher next year oh well,
we have 20 game winners every year, why not a 20 game loser,
and besides, he plays on a team chasing the worst record in baseball history, it's not like he pitches on a team full of Cy Young winners.

ESPN has a tendency to blow thing out of proportion, like with the new craze, the "Walk-Off Homerun"

Why not just say "Game Winning" like they used to?

Oh, and about the 20 game losses, eh no big deal. The team has the worst record, so that justifies it. Still won't make me think that he stinks or anything.
