If you can't even make the Royals rotation, you should retire.

Seriously though, he was always a good mid-rotation starter and it sucks that his career was cut short.

Color me surprised...Thank goodness the Jays didn't get him when he eventually went to KC.

Stand up act. Refreshing to see athletes do something like this.

Thank goodness they didn't get a really good pitcher? That's an odd thing to be thankful for.

Yes well...I should've said it's a good thing the Jays didn't get saddled with paying a big salary for a guy who'd retire before the contract is up.

I don't think the Jays ever would have signed him for 5 years so he probably would be gone by now anyway.

It is terrible anytime a player's career ends prematurely but it is refreshing to see a player who realizes that he cannot perform at the level he once could and not want to have to pitch in relief just to collect a check. He could have pulled an Albert Belle and sit on the DL and get paid but he didn't and i applaud that.

I will gladly take 10% of what he makes and take his spot.

For two and a half years he was one of the best starters in the league (prior to the egregious injury mismanagement by the Royals staff), that's not a horrible thing to get saddled with.

It's good to see a pitcher know when his body can't take anymore. Hope he does well w/ life after baseball.

I wouldn't leave $12 million on the table, but I have to respect it. I remember seeing one of his first MLB starts in Seattle on TV and had a feeling he would be a pretty good pitcher. Sad to see him have to give it up.

I wish he would have just earned the money and donated all of it to charity. David Glass doesn't need $12 million extra in his pockets.
