I am not a Giants fan, but it seems fair to mention that SF's 2010 regular season pitching was:

        #1 in ERA
#1 in ERA+ (taking park effects into account)
        #1 in strikeouts
#1 in lowest batting average against
        #2 in lowest OPS against
        #4 in lowest WHIP

These are all MLB, not NL, ranks. I couldn't find the starters/bullpen splits. Does this prove anything about 2011? Nope. Does this make a decent argument that the Giants have outstanding pitching and that their playoff performance was right in line with their regular season performance (ie, superior)? Yes, it does.

Good stuff. Too bad you couldn't find starters/bullpen splits.

Anyway, this thread isn't JUST about pitching, lol. I think obviously the Red Sox have the best lineup coming into 2011. I think the Phillies starting pitching is the best, the Padres bullpen is the best, and I'm not sure about coaching or defense. What do you guys think?

Starting pitching: Giants (have to go with the younger arms, but Phils close 2nd)
            Bullpen: Atlanta
            Lineup: Red Sox
            Defense: Seattle or Boston
            Coaching: Anaheim

I would take the Giants rotation over the next 5 (hell maybe even 10) years. But for this year, I pick the Phillies.

Atlanta's bullpen is definitely up there, also.

Coaching: Toronto (coaching means more than just the manager. The Jays have unquestioningly the best infield instructor in Brian Butterfield and Bruce Walton has done a magnificent job with the jays pitching staff. Now if it's JUST managing i'd say Anaheim.

                            Giants starting pitching over anyone
                            Boston line up
                            Boston defense
                            Padres Bullpen.
