I hope he stays far away from the AL, unless, of course, he decides to sign with the Royals.

I could barely type that last part without laughing.

I don't think he goes anywhere for the same reasons Rsox said. Simply not many options.

And if he goes to the Cubs, honestly I'll lose quite a bit of respect for him. Players like that should NEVER go to their teams' biggest rival. Super ****ed up.

LOL. My stomach just starts churning whenever he comes to the plate. He is a amazing player that is a game changer.

I agree (well, except for the "lose respect" part), but as someone who saw one of his boyhood idols ride around on a freakin horse after winning a WS with the bad guys, I'm virtually numb to such things...lol.

I hope Albert stays with the Cards though (and think they'll all eventually get on the same page), as it's definitely nice to see players like him ride it out with the same team.

I agree. It would be insane to give Pujols a 10-year deal. He's probably the best hitter of our era, but there comes a time when you have to be smart about things. I am sure he'll rake until he's 35 or 36, but then the decline will begin and St. Louis will be on the hook for five more years.

You know, the fan in me agrees with you, but sadly as I've gotten older I've realized that at the end of the day, professional sports is a business and if the Cubs throw an insane amount of money at him, who could really blame him? A team is telling him, "We value you more than anyone else, come play for us."

I hate typing that but it's the logical way to look at things. I won't lose respect for him because I see it for what it is. It's a business and I'd guess that 90 percent of professional athletes view it that way. I believe firstly, they want to maximize the amount of money they will earn from playing and most everything else will come in a very distant second.

This. And honestly I'd say it's more than 90%. It's also a bit of a psych thing too. If you know you're the best then you want to be paid like the best. Whether or not he gets it remains to be seen but pride has a lot to do with it.

Well, I guess there's something to be said for rivalries and competition. Without those, the business itself wouldn't even exist.

The days of player loyalty are long gone.

Johnny Damon went to the Yankees for Chrissakes.

                      Babe Ruth?

Guess he didn't do it completely willingly.

Rivalries are created and sustained by the fans. Most players could give a crap about rivalries.

                          And that's such a shame.

That's why I love a guy like Chipper, who names his kid Shea because he used to own them in their home park for all those many years.

It makes no sense either, considering these guys were fans before they were players. You'd think they would "get" rivalries.

What the hell? That's like a Russian WWII soldier naming his kid "Berlin".

Rivalries meant more back in the days before players could hop teams from year to year. It's hard to really care about a "rivalrie" when at some point in your career you have probably worn both uniforms.
