      Re: Is the WBC dead?

It's every four years (the second one was three years in order to set the schedule up correctly. They want it to be on World Cup and Olympic off years).

So the next one is in 2013.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Love the WBC, one of the best baseball experiences I had was attending the US/Canada game in the Rogers Centre.

I didn't get to watch most of the last one, but in 2006 I was up every night that week doing some serious homework cramming and such, so it was really, really relieving to be watching a baseball game at 2:00 AM. I can't wait for the next one!

If it's once every four years then MLB needs to try and setup the tourney to be run in July.

Cancel the all-star game add in another 10 days off so you'd have 2 weeks roughly. Simply start the season approx. a week early and end it a week late. It's only every four years so can't see that being a huge problem.

This would also add to the other thread about how to grow the sport. Players would be in mid season form so less chance of injury.

The NHL does or did this every four years in the Olympics, wow talk about exciting hockey!

I love Baseball but i don't think they need to play the World Series on Thanksgiving. Ending the season later for the WBC is not a good idea.

Agreed. It's good the way it is now imo.

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be), didn't we (the United States) start both WBC's in the Rogers Center? I guess I don't really understand why we had to play in that crummy dome... I hate domes in the first place, but then we're playing in a dome in Canada??? No offense to the boys up North, but you now have ONE team.

There are 29 other Major League stadiums to choose from to start that group's part of the tournament in. I mean, if it HAS to be in a dome, why not Milwaukee or Houston? Miami's stadium will be ready for the 2012 season, which would mean it'd be ready for the 2013 WBC.

Come on, guys (the suits) -- let's get this thing started in a REAL stadium here in the U.S.

RAAAWR! Alright, well that's the end of my rant.

Canada's 8-6 win over the US in the 2006 WBC was at Chase Field in Phoenix. Considering that game drew 14,000 while the 2009 CAN/USA game in Toronto drew 42,000, I'd say the WBC organizers made the right choice by having Canada host the game.

If anything, I'd say Japan should host the final playoff round in 2013 considering they've won the first two, get great attendance, and give the tournament more respect than the US does.

I think the tournament should be held at a different host country every four years.

I realize it's not possible in every country because they may lack the fields or the weather to accomplish it, but Japan can definitely manage it. I'm sure South Korea can as well and Mexico/South America.

                            Japan could do it.
I don't see them playing games in South Korea given the problems with North Korea. And the violence engulfing parts of Mexico make Baghdad look like Disney Land so i doubt they would go there either.

I'd like to see the preliminary rounds played when they are now but I think the semi-finals and final should be held over as part of the all-star break.
