Re: If only Charlotte got an MLB team..
Norfolk needs a MLB team. Tidewater, Eastern NC, and Richmond -- more than enough baseball fans there to support a team.
Lots of players in the MLB today from the area too...
Upton brothers, David Wright, Mike Cuddyer, Daniel Hudson, Mark Reynolds, Sean Marshall, Cla Meredith, Scott Sizemore, and Verlander is from Virginia and played at ODU.
I was living in Norfolk when the whole Expos relocation was going on and Norfolk was going all out to bring them there. The MLB choose D.C. so I wouldnt be holding my breath on a new team anytime soon (like ever), and where would this new team play? The Tides stadium would need a ton of money put into for renovations to hold an MLB crowd.
Its too bad the mlb passed on Norfolk, it could have been a different kind of MLB town.Comment

Re: If only Charlotte got an MLB team..
Charlotte isn't big enough for a MLB team. With 81 home games, you need a large market. If Charlotte got a team, they would be the 2nd smallest market in the league. The NFL works because it is an 8 game schedule played on the weekends where they can attract teams from the region. No one is driving from Greensboro on a Tuesday to watch a Charlotte team play Pittsburg.Comment

There is talk of one of the short season Single-A teams in the Northwest League moving to Portland or one of the suburbs. That's a huge market for a little Single-A team.Comment

I would love some kind of baseball. The Bulls, Mudcatz and Indians are on the way out I believe. We will soon be baseball-less. I'm not to fond of basketball and the Panthers are so-so. The best thing we have running (pro-wise) are the Hurricanes. I would love a powerhouse baseball team.Comment

Re: If only Charlotte got an MLB team..
Fact. I think we could support a team. But after building NASCAR hall of fame, among other expenses, I feel that it shouldn't be a priority, especially since, the team would have to be playing well in order to garner support. You'd probably see a fairly full stadium against good teams, because there are a lot of baseball fans around here, it will take years of success for anyone to want to watch them "play the pirates on tuesday"Comment

You're right, and it's not just Carolina/Charlotte. Pretty much every southern state besides Florida is infested with Braves fans.Comment
