Matt Holliday appendectomy - missing 4-6 weeks

    Wow. Big loss.

Karl Ravech just said Holliday out for 4-6 weeks is expected.

I would imagine Jon Jay would get the start and Allen Craig would be seeing more time in the lineup as well.

First Wainwright, now Holliday. Admittedly, Holliday will be back, but come on. Can the Cards ***ch a break?

I would think Craig gets the starts, save Jay for late game defensive subs/pinch running situations.

Plus losing your cleanup hitter you need a guy who can potentially hit for some power, although I'd imagine Craig won't be hitting 4th, still need more power.

What a crappy season, Wainwright out for the year, Pujols contract situation lingering overhead, now Holliday.

I can't even lie, yesterday everytime AP came up to the plate I just had an empty feeling, not to say I don't want him to do well, because I'd love for him to hit .400, 80, 200 because that means we're likely going to have an awesome year but I think after watching ****** leave the Cavs in the offseason I just get a bad feeling Albert is going to walk, I guess I'm trying to distance myself so it won't sting as bad if he does.

Really sucks though because you have the best hitter in baseball (not counting yesterday) and its almost difficult to enjoy watching him due to how bad its going to sting if he leaves via FA, I understand how awful that sounds but its like I'm trying to let myself down easy if that makes any sense.

In addition this one really hurts, Holliday got off to such a slow start last year and did end up finishing strongly, but this year he comes out raking on opening day and now this

When he comes back hes going to have to find his groove again, just a huge set back for a team already in a hole due to the Wainwright injury.

Hopefully Albert can play like his usual MVP self because we're going to need him to carry this offense for the next month or so.

I don't see how he misses 4-6 weeks with this...I'm guessing 3 weeks and he's back out there.

It's going to be tougher without protection behind him; I think more pitchers will (and should anyway) be throwing around Pujols a lot more, and giving him junk pitches in more fastball counts, etc.

We'll see what comes of this.

Matt Cassel played 10-11 days after having his, 4-6 weeks seems insane.

Would be a huge loss if its indeed 4-6 weeks, but it could easily be quicker than that.

Yeah after the initial sky is falling feeling has subsided the 4-6 week time frame makes sense.

He hasn't had the surgery yet (well could be having it now but hadn't as of an hour and a half ago), assuming everything goes well and its laprascopic he shouldn't be out too long.

If theres any kind of compli***ion where it would have to become an open appendectomy as opposed to laprascopic then the 4-6 week time frame fits. Guess this way it covers the bases of worst case hes out a month and a half, best case could be like Cassel and be back in probably 2 weeks.

This one hurts...my fantasy lineup was looking real good. Now I gotta shelf the dominance to a certain extent.

I really want to see Jay get to start because I am big on him. But I agree that Tony will likely toss Craig in there.

We'll probably get to see Berkman bat cleanup as well for a while. That could be interesting.

It took me a 5 weeks to fully recover from my appendectomy, and that was after I was hospitalized with a small staph infection. I say 3 weeks tops.

4-6 weeks? Yeah right....He should be ready to go after 2-3.

Yeah, I'd say 2-3 weeks tops. I had an appendectomy a few years ago, and was feeling pretty well after a week or so, and was back to normal around 2 weeks. Unless he has some complications I don't think it will be anywhere near the 4-6 weeks suggested.

And I think Jon Jay should get the start in Matt's absence. I think he's the more disciplined hitter and better defensively than Craig.

Yankees prospect Manny Banuelos had n appendectomy last year and missed 2 months. So I'd say it varies.

Yeah, I mean Joe Mauer's heel injury lasted like a week and mine has lasted 18 months and counting.
