What MLB Player are you like?

I thought that since this thread in the basketball section was entertaining i'd make it baseball related. I'll start.

I'm like Ichiro, because I consistently get on base, normally through singles/walks, but sometimes a double. I'm fast and end up in the top in steals for my team. I play outfield, mainly center, and don't have the strongest arm but make up for it with my range.

I'm like a Nick Swisher with speed. I'm not talking about the numbers though, I'm talking about our approaches at the plate. We are both switch hitters which are different identities on both sides of the plate, can cover the inside pitches well and train our eyes to not offer out of the strike zone often.

Obviously he has much more strength than me so he'll be hammering the ball around the field much better than I would, but until I can think of another player more representative of my likeness I'm going to have to go with Swish.

If were going with active ball players I would have to say I was a lot like Travis Wood. I was also left handed and had good command but not a over powering fastball although my pitching stats were more like Nolan Ryan as I always had high strike out totals. Also thru a few no hitters and 1 perfect game in my career.

Logan Morrison, I got some speed and am an average defender. I don't usually swing at bad pitches, get on base, hit my fair share of doubles and an occassional HR. However i'm not a lefty lol, but couldn't think of a better guy.

Like the rest this is all in likeness and not actual numbers. However this is just what I notice when I play my usual pick up baseball game most weekends and not like HS ball or anything

Offensively, right handed Brett Gardner. I was very patient, good contact hitter, almost never struck out, very little power, most of my extra base hits were hit down the line and/or hustle plays. Really fast and really good instincts. Pretty much every time I got on I would steal 2nd first pitch, and I'd usually take 3rd too.

But I played 3rd base and catcher most of my life, and I can't think of and 3rd baseman or catchers like that. I had a really good glove, but below average arm. Had really quick hands, but not a lot of range.

When I played, I sucked on defense and I couldn't hit anything if my life depended on me.

Dear God, I was a 12 year old version of 2010 Melky Cabrera.

Buster Posey. Ive always been a good catcher and Ive got a good arm. I am pretty decent hitter and hit clean up for most of the season in the 18+ league I played for. Taking this year off sadly to heal up a knee injury I got not playing baseball lol.

I never really pursued baseball, but I guess I'd be most like a Cole Hamels or David Price. Long, lean lefty that could throw pretty fast. Of course, that was back when I actually played t-ball and baseball for a couple years during elementary school. In 4th grade I got clocked at 41mph. Obviously that was with horrible form just trying to throw as hard as I could, but I read an article a while back about a 9 year old throwing 40mph which translate to about 95mph at the major league level.

When it came to hitting I guess I was kind of like Adam Dunn. I swung for the fences every time. I wound up missing a lot of the time, but when I got a hold of it the ball went far.

Looking back I wish I at least played through high school, but I went after basketball which wasn't a bad decision until my knees got messed up.

Re: What MLB Player are you like?

In Little League, I was a lot like Joe Mauer, but with more power. I was an all-star three straight years and caught. Like Mauer, I was a big catcher and a very good hitter. I hit a lot of home runs. I also pitched.

I took a year off from baseball and it was the worst decision I made as a young kid. I tried playing at 15 and just lost all my offensive ability. It was weird. Baseball is not the game to take any time off when you're young, as you quickly fall behind unless you just have a great deal of God-given talent -- something that I obviously didn't have because I could never get back to the level I was at in Little League.

I did play up until I was 16, but was strictly a pitcher. I would compare myself to a guy like Mark Wohlers when he lost all command of his pitches. At 17, I got clocked at 91 MPH, but my control was absolutely atrocious. I was a big kid, standing 6'4" and 210 pounds then, and I wish I had some semblance of control because I threw damn hard. That heat just didn't serve me any good when I literally threw balls 60 percent of the time.

I had coaches work with me, but I ultimately gave up. I wish the good Lord would have given me some control, because who knows, maybe I could have been a Big League pitcher one day.

In the end, all I had, past the age of 15, was a strong arm that brought gas but no command and that led to frustration and the ultimate demise of my baseball "career."

Mauer when I was younger and a broken Wohlers when I was older.

                    Kind of a weird combination.

41 MPH at nine-years-old is pretty dang fast. I threw 65 MPH at 12, which was also pretty fast, and threw in the upper 80's/very low 90's as a 17-year-old.

My arm was always strong and still is. I can throw a football 65 yards. But on the mound, my command was non-existent. I just couldn't get the ball over the plate.
