yeah it just wrenches my heart to see a fairly new expansion team that has already won one world series to not be good one year because their two aces were injured.

As odd as it seems, Schilling and Johnson being injured most of the year was the least of their problems... The guys they brought up, including Webb (R.O.Y. - No question) did well beyond expectations. But the complete offensive collapse after the All-Star break did them in. With Cintron (easy offesive R.O.Y. candidate), Hammock, and Kata from AAA tearing it up along side Gonzo, Finley, Mondesi, Spivey, Hillenbrand and the rest, they have no excuse. Mondesi is now the teams best hitter. Other than Gonzo, no one else is hitting for their average this year. They need to take a hard look at what's wrong with the bats this off-season. I've been a long-time Brenly supporter, but I think he may have outlived his usefullness. He's made a TON of horrible calls, and anyone who thinks their hitters can get into any kind of groove when using a record 141 different starting lineups in one season is a fool. Someone goes 0-4 one day, on the bench they go. Another guy heats up and goes 10-15 or so in a series, and he'll get set down for the next few games. Makes no sense whatsoever. Put your best guys in and leave them alone for a couple weeks so they can get comfortable..... No one but Gonzo knows whether or not they're starting tomorrow (even Mondesi), and at what position. They're just supposed to hit on command. Our GM has made some brilliant moves for talent, young and old, and it gets turned into a scrambled mess. They have some thinking to do...
