    Mariner Collapse

I just dont know what to think of them anymore even though they are my favorite team. Why did it have to happen now and this year? I thought they were going to blaze into the playoffs this year! Anyone else have comments?

They really hurt their chances when they didn't pick up an extra bat/starting pitcher before the trade deadline. They are blowing leads late and the offense is really slumping. A sweep this weekend against Oakland is a must if they wish to make the playoffs.

Their starting pitching has been absolutely pathetic since the all star break, as have the bats. Ichiro has been a joke the past month.

When Ichiro sucks, so do the Mariners. I thought he would stay consistent this year....

They're kind of an old team. And older teams require a depth they don't possess. I think the M's upper management was full aware of this, saw the profits the team was making anyway, and decided to do nothing. There's no drive to win in the Mariner office. This wouldn't be such a shock if it wasn't exactly what they did last season. Last year their big mid-season aquisition was Jose Offerman. This year it was Rey Sanchez (Nelson for Benitez to me is hardly an upgrade). The Mariner players and fans deserve better.
