Ron Villone getting the nod on Opening Day for the Pirates in 2002 was pretty bad, too.

A little more recent is Luke Hochevar for the Royals this season. 5.60 career ERA and has been pretty pedestrian this year.

There's been some bad ones over the past 10 years, so it's pretty tough to pick just one.

2002, Padres, Kevin Jarvis. Sometimes you have no choice.

didn't Woody Williams get a few opening day starts?

and who was the guy that started on opening day for the DEVIL Rays in 2004 or 2005...maybe 2006 (don't remember). guy I had never heard of, and have never heard of since.

EDIT - Dewon Brazelton. finished the season 1-8 with a 7.61 ERA.

Woody Williams had one for the Padres I think in 2005. Either that year or 2006.

Tampa Bay may just win this historically too, and they haven't even been around that long.

They've had the following guys as Opening Day starters:

Wilson Alvarez- Nothing screams team Ace like this guy

Steve Trachsel- It's always good to have the Cubs washed up number 4 starter as your opening day starter.

Albie Lopez- You remember him, don't you? No?

Tanyon Sturtze- Sub .500 career record and a plus 5 ERA. Watch out baseball.

Joe Kennedy- Star in the making, obviously.

Victor Zambrano- Hey, apparently the Mets wanted him bad enough to give up Kazmir, who at the time was their best prospect. So maybe he was worthy? Okay, not really.

Dewon Brazelton- The aforementioned worthless nobody who may be the worst of the bunch.

Wilson Alvarez was actually a stud with the White Sox when he first came up...injuries derailed his career.

Wasnt the decision. But a terrible very terrible outing for his debut.
