    BS MLB blackout today....

    According to MLB.com's own site:
Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, live games occurring each Saturday with a scheduled start time after 1:10 PM ET or before 7:05 PM ET
All the games blacked out tonight start after 7:05pm. But because FOX wants to broadcast the Yankee's, we get screwed.

They do this every year with the FOX Saturday game.

That is the other teams fault. FOX has exclusive rights and those are known. FOX also has to publish the games/times that they will be broadcasting. Usually what happens is that the other teams start their games at 1PM or after 7PM.

Games for today should have started before 4PM or after 10PM. I don't know if FOX decided this recently or not, but teams should have moved their start times.

*They should never blackout the local team, but MLB is stupid.

See, that's what I would like to know....when FOX decides to change their Sat broadcast time, how much lead time they give to the teams to change their games.

Obviously these games tonight were scheduled to not interfere with the blackout rules, but apparently those rules don't apply...it's what FOX wants that counts....and that's what really pisses me off. That and having to listen to Joe Buck.

If MLB had any balls they'd force FOX to cover all the scheduled games in FOX's blackout window, that way all games would be covered and I'd not be missing my Rockies game......

Brewers Rockies game had a chance to go earlier today but the Brewers declined to do that.

Yeah, it seems they all had plenty of time to change things. Still, it's a joke that local teams get blacked out in favor of what FOX wants. They really should be required to show all games played during their blackout window.

Hmm interesting maybe that's why the Marlins had a 4 PM EST start today, thought that was unusual considering most of the home games are either 7 or 1 PM EST.

Blackouts original intent was to make sure the stadiums were filled locally. Seems to be working well in Florida.

That is wrong, it only applies to NFL. MLB doesn't have to sell any tickets and the games will still be shown locally. FOX bought the rights which included not showing any other baseball games on TV, even for local markets, during their games.

I really don't understand what Fox or the MLB thinks they are going to accomplish by doing this. The majority of baseball fans only give a crap about their own team, and if their team is not shown those people aren't going to tune into the national game, they will just do something else instead. There is literally no benefit for Fox or MLB by not allowing even local teams to be shown. Fans not even being able to see their local teams during that time-frame is a load of horse crap, plain and simple.

                          Re: BS MLB blackout today....

What I have never understood about the blackout policy is why am I blocked out from watching the Padres (I live in San Diego) when they are on the ROAD?

If they are in Cincy, for example, how does blacking them out in San Diego make me likely to go to the game?

BTW, I am talking about daily, not the FOX game which is a different animal. As an EI subscriber I am blocked out from all Pads games and that doesn't make sense to me.

They are blacked out because they are available on your local station. Probably your FOX Sports or similar channel. Even though you may be trying to watch them on the Padres EI coverage, they are blacked out to get you to watch it on the local channel.

Ya, unfortunately I don't get the "local" channel because it's a cable only...oh well.
