    Ryan Vogelsong

So this guy is unbeleiveable, going from being washed up 1st rounder to being a washed up pitcher in the japanese league, then to being a one of the best pitchers (the best statistically) on a giants rotation that has 2 Aces, 1 future ace, and a former ace. He has great control, its unbeleiveable, today he needed only 99 pitches to get through 8 innings. He has a 1.77 ERA and 4 wins to 1 loss. To think that this guy was signed to a minor league contract is absurd. How has he done this this year? Did he have an eppifany, get better coaching, or is it PED related? Anyway i beleive he is a lock for Comeback POY.

He's doing amazing stuff at no risk for San Francisco. If he doesn't do well, oh well, no biggie... it wasn't expected from him anyway. Whereas you have a player like Barry Zito who is raking in the millions, and can't give you two consecutive quality starts to save his life.

But in the meantime, the dude is dealing on both sides of the plate. The only mistake he gave up today was after he lost focus on a 2-2 changeup that wasn't called for a strike on Ianetta (a pitch which I also believe was a ball myself). He also manufactures at the plate by getting the bunt down, and he can defend his position.

Again, no real loss if he goes down in the sense that, if he was just to sprout for a few starts, we'll take what we can get from him. I don't expect him to finish under 2.00 for the rest of the season, and I certainly expect a bad outing sooner than later. I'm not saying that's the kind of pitcher that he is, I'm just saying that's what he used to be and that's what we paid him as. Plus, no one (Halladay, Hernandez) is perfect. It's bound to happen someday. I won't throw a fit if it happens, but until then... he is flat out dominating as he shoved a fat one up the Rockies today.

Glad to see an NL West pitcher not named Lincecum, Kershaw, or Haren getting some recognition around here.

I'm happy to see a guy who has struggled throughout his career, finally have success. He never had success in the big leagues in the past, and he was decent in Japan.

But for a guy who signs at the age of 20, has decent success in the minors before struggling in the bigs, goes to play in Japan, comes back to the majors at age 33 and finds success? That's great to see. Hope he can keep it up, obviously like Blzer said he's bound to have bad outings, everyone does. Just hope he can limit them and continue to have success.

It's nice to see, but I wanna see how he holds up. As a Pirate fan I saw the guy have alot of ups n downs. Guy always had the stuff, it was just putting it all together consistently. I understand he's not same guy as he was then, just holding off on praise for now. I'm not hatin, I'm just sayin

I'd love to see guy finally put it together though. I have nothing against him and would like nothing more than to see him finally succeed and be the pitcher he was suppost to be all those years ago.

I sort of blame the Pirates organization a little bit for all of that. They seem to have a little difficulty developing their young pitchers, don't they?

A little difficulty would be an improvement. They are horrible at it, and also have had some bad luck involved. There for awhile every Pitcher drafted either wasn't worth a damn or had Tommy John surgery. I thought since Vogelsong was coming from Giants and was already in MLB he wouldn't fall into that group, but alas he did.

I will agree with you and the Pirates failing to develop any Pitcher up until recently. It looks like they finally have a decent plan going. Seem to have better coaching in MLB and Minors, are drafting well,Scouting is improved, and basically overall development of all players has improved. I'm not saying they gonna be World Champs anytime soon, but atleast they pointed in right direction, been awhile since that happened.
