it was also reported on the same program that the Phils would go after a legit bigtime closer (i.e. Ugeth Urbina...he was one of the names brought up)

I hope so, I'm just weary of all these "promises" after getting screwed by these owners for some many years. I'm still thinking that this years spending spike is due to the fact that they need to sell luxury boxes for the new stadiun. I guess we won't know for a few years whether they really want to become a great team, or just generate revenue. Its sad, because if done correctly, they can do both (see NY Yankees).

As for Tejada, let me put it this way. For the money they would spend on Tejada (Approx 12-15 million), they could have Vasquez (7-9 million) and Dotel (3 Million). I don't think Dotel is a free agent, but this is just an example.

The Cubs will probably land Luis Castillo for 2nd then put Grudzielanek back at shortstop. Here's to hoping we can also get a catcher and a right fielder.

To be honest with you, I don't want Tejada. Way too much money for his production. I'm not saying he's bad by any means, but I feel that whoever does get him, will end up overpaying him.

To me, I'd rather have a decent #2 or #3 starter and a few situational guys in the bullpen (good ones mind you).

I agree i think the dont really need him Jimmy Rollins is a good Shortstop and Chase Utley looks good at 2B why sink the money into Tejada, they should first try to re-sign Kevin Millwood then a number two starter, and go from there,
besides they overpaid for David Bell and look what that got them.

Yeah but David Bell has never had a good year. Tejada has.

No way do I want them to resign Milwood. Sure, I was at the No-Hitter, and I thank Milwood for providing me with the best experience that I've ever experienced at a sporting event.

With that being said, he's not a big game pitcher. When they REALLY need a win, sometimes he pitch great and other times he'll lay an egg. The bottom line is that his consistancy sucks, and he never was that great in ATL (with the exception of that one season where I think he went 18-6).

For my money, pay Vasquez the extra million or so that he'll fetch over Milwood, and you have a BULLDOG on the mound.

pity the team that pays 10-12 million dollars on a .260 hitter with some pop.

                              edit: I should say .270
