    Roy Oswalt

Is his career over? It seems like he has a little bit of gas left in the tank but with the back problems it looks like he's done.

    He sure looked done yesterday.
Lance Berkman looked done last year as well though.

What? This reminds me of this reactionary, let's overblow every move and nuance reporting that happens in the world of sports these days. It's like every story has to have this sensational angle and I'm so sick of it. The guy is hurting, he's being evaluated and we'll get the results later and determine what type of rehab has to be done.

But to ask "is his CAREER over?" and say "he sure looks done" is based on what? You watched one Phillies game and made this determination?

      This is a nonsense thread.

No need to get mad it's just a question. And MAYBE based on the fact he's been on the DL for back problems this year and he can't even go two innings because every time he throws a pitch his back kills him? Have you seen him pitch lately? That's not normal. It COULD end his career and I'm sure people are worried about it.

I'm sorry you don't like it but his career could be done.

I'm not mad, I'm annoyed. IF his career is done, then it's done. I'll get over it. But it doesn't warrant its' own separate discussion imo.

Dude, no need to get offended. The way he talked in his post game interview sure sounded like he could be done.

His back is clearly a big problem. His fastball velocity has been on a decline ever since last year. The signs are there.

Personally, I think he'll be back. He won't be an "ace" but he can be a solid middle of the rotation guy.

I wasn't offended. Being offended means I took it personally. Again, I didn't think it was the assumption to get into regarding this guy. I think I'm just irritated about how every situation has to be some sensational story. It's all over sports talk radio, 'net, etc.

But, again, for the record.... I'm not mad. I'm not offended. I don't know Oswalt and it's not like he's my brother-in-law.

I agree that a lot of times the media tries to make something out of nothing a lot, but I think there is a legitimate case here. Watch the video:

This is a legitimate reason to make a topic. It's not like I'm wondering if Shin Soo Choo's career is over because he fractured his thumb. Back problems aren't something to ignore and I'm sure he is worried about his health as much as he is worried about being able to pitch again.

My dad has problems with the discs in his back, sometimes he can't even stand up it gets so bad, but to pitch with that pain? Couldn't imagine that.

Oswalt is one who's said multiple times that he's considered hanging them up after the 2011 season. So if this does knock him out for a considerable amount of time it could push him closer to retiring.

Oswalt has mentioned on several occasions he might retire. A few years ago he said he considered walking away and just going to his farm...he has stated he doesn't NEED baseball. I have no problem with the question being asked...it's not sensationalizing in his case.

Well, leaving baseball because of other motivations is different than an injury, but I gotta tell you JNes, if that video is your evidence, I hope you're not an attorney! heh

Just wanted to chime in and say I think Oswalt is probably done after this year, not because he can't play anymore (because I think he can come back from this), but because I think baseball isn't a #1 priority for him anymore.

Quite frankly, I really don't think he likes being in Philly. Don't get me wrong, I bet he loves the team, and enjoys playing here 9 innings a night, but outside of that, I don't think he likes the area. He's a southern guy, no doubt about it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it if he hangs it up after this year. He'll be going out near the top of his game, and on his terms. Not too many guys can say that.
