As someone said above, it's both Sox teams that are cursed. The Cubs have always just sucked. Therefore, I'd be inclined to choose the Cubs in the series. Unless Babe Ruth decides to end the curse and resurrects himself to pitch in the Sox bullpen. They can use any help they can get.

I believe I remember something about a goat and the Cubs involving a curse.

    Am I correct?

Who cares who wins? How great would it be for baseball to have a Cubs/BoSox WS? It could be the best thing to happen to baseball in the past 10 years!!!

Re: Cubs vs. Red Sox in the World Series: Who Wins?

I give the advantage to the Cubs in 5 games due to the starting staff alone, no matter how good your offense is dominant starting pitching wins the majority of the time. The Cubs have 4 of the nastiest, youngest and dangerous pitchers in the league. In a 5-7 game series they have an advantage over almost every other team. Arizona had Johnson and Schilling, the Cubs have Wood, Prior, Zambrano and Clement. All 4 can shut your offense down and have been going deep into games all year, saving the pen. The bullpen is also very good, even though they can be erractic. The defense in the infield is solid, outfield could be better though. You also have Dusty Baker running the ship with a excellent coaching staff and a club that is pretty healthy. This team is a mix of veterans and youth that has shown all year long not to doubt them, they beat the Yankess, Giants, Marlins, etc this year. They also improved by 21 games and have been hot since the Break thus clinching their divison outright.

Overall this Cubs team is much better than people give it credit for, here is a number to let you put it in perspective. 1,499 or around there TOTAL SEASON STRIKEOUTS BY A PITCHING STAFF (NEW RECORD ALSO) SET BY THE CUBS BREAKING THEIR OWN OLD RECORD. This staff, the Starting 4 in particular, have dominated people all year long. I am not taking anything away from Boston, great team, but the pitching is just so good on the Cubs it balances things out.

A curse is when you are good enough to win, but don't, or "can't".....in the White Sox case, they've sucked since 1912....sure Frank Thomas has been great for them for those few years....but they have never been World Series caliber.

In '83 the Chisox won 99 games and were the team to beat, but Ron Kittle (who had an amazing season) got hurt in game 1 and the Orioles got passed them and into the series.

I'd say that was alot closer than any Cubs team, in '84 the Cubs were 1 game away, but couldn't win a single game in San Diego. In '89 the Giants pretty much dominated the Cubs in the NLCS, and in '98 the Cubs had to play a one game playoff just to win the wild card.
Overall, I think the Chisox have been a much better team than the Cubs over the years. The Sox are not usually cellar dwellers.
