Would it be the same.......?
....if the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. Now, I'm not asking you if they will. I saw a special on ESPN where they interviewed BoSox fans about what they would feel if they won the Series and broke the curse of the Bambino. They said that the mystery and hope for the Red Sox would disappear. I have to agree on that. One of the things that has sold tickets and kept the Red Sox so famous is that they haven't won it yet. If they win, then it just won't be the same, in my opinion.Tags: None -
Re: Would it be the same.......?
This is true, I can give you a parellel to this. The Toronto Argos of the CFL was one of the losingest teams for a good 30 years prior to their first Grey Cup victory in the modern era in 1983.(?) The team sold a lot of tickets on the fact that they were a lovable set of losers and there was that mystique about the chase for a championship.
After they won the Grey Cup that year, things were never the same as attendence dropped and fan interest dissipated. Of course there were other factors involved. (mainly the emergence of the Blue Jays as good up and coming team in MLB.)
Things wouldn't get that drastic in Boston but there just won't be that "charm".Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
