    What would you do?

What would you do if a player who was on a very impressive hit streak came up to bat, late in a close or even tied game, and was 0-3, there were two outs and there are runners on 2nd and 3rd? Even though he was 0-3, he has a an outstanding career average off of the pitcher on the mound.

Do you test your luck and pitch to him? Or do you walk him to bring up a weaker bat even though you are pretty much ending his hit streak unless the game goes into extras?

I personally would walk him if there was a weak at bat. I'm expecting the majority will agree with me. The guy had 3 other chances to get a hit and din't so it's his fault it has to end like this. Still, part of me would feel a bit guilty that I walked him and I would feel that wasn't fair for him to keep his streak alive.

I'd walk him, Hitting streak aside there is a game to be played and with an open base you'd be crazy not to walk him and get a weaker hitter to the plate.

      Re: What would you do?

I'd do to him what I would do to him if he wasn't on a hitting streak (well, with the exception that he is a proven hotter hitter at this point, which means I would err more to the side of intentionally walking him on the streak).

This is why I'm not a fan of personal achievements coming into play with the game. What if a pitcher is throwing a perfect game against a guy who has a long hitting streak? Who do we root for in this situation? There's really a no-win thing to this, and in this case it's just more important to try and win the game (if you're still in the hunt).

If you get booed, it's on the manager anyway, and his call is completely justified. It has nothing to do with sabotaging a hitting streak. You have to earn your streaks, just like you have to earn your perfect games/no-hitters. As long as there's decent justification to do it (just like bunting, and if it's something you've been known to do before in your history), I don't see it as being out of line.

If it gives me a better chance to win, I'm gonna walk him. Baseball etiquette is cool and all, but I'm gonna try to do everything I can to put my team in a better position to win.

Guess it depends who's up after him. If its another middle of the order hitter I'd pitch to him. If its a pitcher or someone like Drew Butera I'd walk him.

I don't even think the player would care that much, as he understands the point of the game is to win. The only people that would get butthurt over it would be the media and some fans of the team.

I could give a rats *** about a hitting streak, my job as manager is to make sure my team wins.

Walk him. Out at any base with 2 down is ideal, especially if you can get past a big bat. The only reason I'd pitch to him is because he's shown all night that he can't hit off my pitcher.
