The Braves and our fans have no right to be talking about magic numbers.

**** this team for making it so difficult.

Congrats to Phils fans on another NL East title...and here's to 2011 being the last one for a while.

Mariano Rivera tied the all time saves record today against Toronto. The saves stat can ring very hollow but I do think Rivera is clearly the greatest closer who has ever pitched in the big leagues. The man in his prime was like a machine and to think he did it all with basically one pitch! I daresay Rivera has at least 3-4 more years left in him and could very well make the saves record nearly impossible to break.
Mariano probably could, but a reliever can breakdown really quick especially at his age.

I think he'll get 670 or 680, squeeze in two seasons before calling it a career. I'd hope he doesn't linger if things go south like Trevor did.

Despite the emphasis on how managers manage towards the save statistic, it'll be a while before we see anyone get near 600. Maybe K-Rod has a chance, but while there have been some great closers, very few have managed to dominate for more than a decade.

Congrats on Mariano Rivera on tying the record (and a pre-congrats on when he breaks it, I knew he'd do so this season).

Random factoid, of all players that have come to the plate at least 200 times, the Twins have three of the nine worst.

And Drew Butera is still far and away the worst.

Three players have a higher OBP than Butera has for an OPS.
