Re: If baseball had a tenth defensive position...
I'd have him in the stands, and he stays there when the team is batting and gives them signals.....Jays already do that lol.
But like someone else said,a 4th outfielder would be better. The biggest part of the outfield on both sides is around 150 feet? So instead of 3 guys across that(meaning around 50 feet that each guy has to cover) it's now less than 40 which would make a huge difference and would be so hard to get extra base hits.
Baseball would be real interesting then. We'd be seeing only real speedy guys who can hit or big guys who will get home runs.
Or they could just make it blurnsball.Comment

I'd use a player like Zobrist, Power Hitter he would move to LCF, Weak Hitter he would play behind 2nd.PSN-Shugarooo

Re: If baseball had a tenth defensive position...
It would be like soccer or American football, I think.
Traditional positions would die and instead teams will be using various formations throughout the game to prevent a hitter from finding a hole in the field.
Imagine what a team would do with 10 positions and a bunt situation in a late game.
At first, teams would go the traditional non traditional route. They'd add a guy up the middle infield or a fourth outfielder. But over time, you'd get the Maddon's of the world that will play with things like five outfielders or two outfielders, three infielders on the right side or vice versa. Lots of crazy things.
And while some may think it would kill the game, I think it would simply change it dramatically. Yes, the game we once loved would be gone, but a new game would emerge and humans will find ways to solve whatever defensive adjustments a manager might make."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
