Ozzie Guillen will not manage the White Sox next year
Apparently Ozzie has managed his last game tonight. As a White Sox fan, I hate to see him go. He may have been vocal but I still felt that he was a very knowledgeable baseball guy. Looks like the Ozzie to the Marlins is all but a done deal.

Traded to Florida for prospects. His statement is classic Ozzie.
Edit - Turns out he wasn't trade for prospects. I should have known better than to listen to ESPN reports.Last edited by areobee401; 09-27-2011, 12:14 AM. -

Can't wait to see what happens next year with Ozzie and Hanley Ramirez. I expect great things from Ramirez next year. I think Ozzie is perfect for a young talented team like the Marlins.
Who's being mentioned for the White Sox gig? Has Bobby Valentine's name popped up?Comment

Ozzie as the mouthpiece is the perfect fit.
Just not sure how the old people in Florida will except him though.Comment

Ozzie is exactly what the Marlins need. I think he'll be a great mouthpiece for the team and will light a fire under the players. It'll be VERY interesting to see how the community down there reacts when he (rightfully) criticizes the fans if they don't show up to the park next season.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Ozzie Guillen will not manage the White Sox next year
I'm excited I think he has the right fit with a good majority of the players being Latin and I think he'll be able to keep guys like Hanley/LoMo in line.
Loria just has to let him do his thing, even if it involves calling out his favorite player Hanley. He'll also bring in even more attention to the franchise, also interested to see if having a big name manager will help when the Marlins supposedly want to start spending big this Free Agency.
I'm excited for this move, if for nothing else when we lose atleast I'll look forward to an Ozzie interview.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

The CWS will receive two prospects as compensation.(Osvaldo Martinez, an infielder, and Jhan Martinez, a relief pitcher. The two rated among Florida's top five prospects to begin 2011, from mlbtraderumors)Comment

Osvaldo i'm fine with trading he's played sparingly in the Majors and did nothing spectacular and won't play with Infante/Hanley in the middle. Jhan I guess was one of our better relief prospects, but our whole farm system is down right now so Idk if better necessarily means good.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Ozzie Guillen will not manage the White Sox next year
Javier Vazquez was contemplating retiring following this season. With Ozzie heading to Miami that is probably a sure thing now.
Ozzie leaving the White Sox is probably a good move for both sides. We know Ozzie was tiring of losing and at some point i'm sure the players were tiring of him as well.
Ozzie to Florida becomes interesting because he is only going to have mostly young teams with a few veterans sprinkled in, the reverse of what he had in Chicago.
It has not been said who the White Sox will look at to replace Ozzie. Interestingly the one guy most people would probably think would be likely to replace Guillen Joey Cora was told he would not manage the team the final 2 games was replaced by pitching coach Don Cooper, not sure if that means Cora is not on the radar or what.
One person to watch could be former White Sox Catcher and Royals manager Tony Pena.Last edited by rsox; 09-27-2011, 06:04 PM.Comment
