Before the season started, all we heard about Dusty Baker was how he rode his starters too long.
Now, no commentator or reporter will bring this up.
THIS IS THE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fan sucked, AGonz booted the ball, I agree. A TEAM loses a game with a collection of collective actions.
BUT THE MANAGER HAS TOP-DOWN CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!
PRIOR looked horrible in the 8th. Just as he did in game two, except that time he had a 12 run lead. THE ONLY FLAW WITH DUSTY, see above, CAME BACK TO GET HIM.
PRIOR nearly got taken to LAKE MICHIGAN by IVAN RODRIGUEZ, then walks him.
HE throws a thigh high fastball to DEREK LEE. DUSTY, as he should have done in game two--for different reasons--should have taken PRIOR out. I DONT CARE IF HE IS THE BEST PITCHER IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. This is not hindsight, I said this at the end of teh 7th, my wife is my only witness.
Once BAKER finally brings in the 100+mph FARNSWORTH, he throws 2-3 straight breaking balls!!!!!!
SO NOW HE IS FORCED TO THROW A FASTBALL TO A FASTBALL HITTER. the rest is history.
We can blame the fan, and we should; we can blame ALEX, and we should; we can blame PRIOR, but he should not have been in that game any longer. NO REASON TO PITCH YOUR ACE 18 innings over 2 games in the postseason!!
BUT DUSTY's DECISIONS LOST THIS GAME, just as much as bad execution.
I know this has been ran into the ground, but somebody had to give it to DUSTY BAKER.
