You know what I hate?

I've read this at least 10 times and it's really starting to irritate me. First, if you're a fan of the home team, why would you reach over the railing (and yes, he did reach) on a potential out, especially in a game as crucial as this? Any REAL fan would take the out over a stupid souvenir. I repeat, ANY REAL FAN. Are you at the game to see your team win or to grab a baseball? If you believe the latter then you have no validity to your argument, and I'd advise you to never go to a baseball game again. Second, the ball was in the air for a while, and the fan in question (not to mention the other stupid fans who reached for the ball) had ample time to recognize the situation, and to make his best effort to avoid the ball. The ball was not hit hard, as I've seen some say. In fact, the ball was hit very weakly.


So what's my point, you ask?

First off, he didnt reach over the railing he simply put his hands straight up in the air. That ball would not have landed on the playing field. Alou might have caught it but the ball would have either landed in the stands or hit the top of the railing.
And second, there were about 10 other people reaching for that ball so don't make it sound like he was the only one.
I would have done the same thing if I were him.
You want to blame someone for losing the game then blame the players on the field. Gonzalez let that ground ball play him and it led to a huge inning for the Marlins.
Stop searching for excuses, the only excuse there is, is that the Cubs simply blew it.

Yeah, but when a foul ball is flying towards you, which is a great moment at a baseball game, you aren't thinking "Ok, well at the rate that the outfielder is running, by the time he gets here he may have a chance to get the ball, so maybe I should let this one go, however, with the wind resistanc coming into play, the ball may tail off towards me enough to be out of his reach. There is only one out, so it may effect the game, yet Prior is a great pitcher so I could take the risk and have a souvenier that many fans crave."
