    The Brewers Fan Post

ok as a brewer fan i must say i hope that the brewers can be in the playoffs within a few years and with the guys in the farm system, ned yost as manager and doug melvin as gm, plus some of the talent we got im confident they can get there. anyways im just wondering, what do you guys see us doing in the offseason? i know theyre cutting payroll. but what do you guys think theyll do with pitchers, SS C and RF??? i see those as the positions they need help at. i wouldnt mind seeing royce clayton back if no one else decent is out there. i think with pitching if they got someone capable of being 4 and 5 starters theyll be fine for now. at RF is brady clark an everyday player?? do they keep Osik and Perez switching back and forth as catchers or do they bring in a guy who can play everyday?? also what do you guys think about what will happen with Sexson or Jenkins. anyways just a post from a brewer fan who just wanted to see what other brewer fans think of what the team will do to get closer to being a playoff team.

this is going to be a very slow thread lol.....no seriously they have the potential to do just that. Look at KC or the Twins of late. Or the Expos

I read where Sexson is going to make a franchise high 8 million next year and is in the last year of his contract. Sexson said he wants to stay but can the Brewers really keep him? I think if they are out of it at the trading deadline next year he could be gone. It sucks for the Brewers as I would rather have Sexson instead of Jenkins at least Sexson stays heathly but the Brewers do have Prince Fielder (Cecil's son) coming up through minors and he had a great year in A ball batting .313 with 27 homers so he could lessen the lost of Sexson down the road.

Also, they have 2B Rickie Weeks who who was their first round pick this year who came up to the Bigs in September and SS J.J Hardy who had a decent season in AA. I read in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he could come in next year and replace Clayton. If the Brewers can develop some of the prospects in the minors and stick with Yost as the coach for more than 3 years they could have a pretty good team later in this decade.

I think the Brewers will have a better year next year. All they need is some more pitching help really. I wouldn't mind seeing Sexson go, since they need to bring up Fielder. I don't think Bill Hall will become a starter at SS anytime soon. His defense is just so bad. And what kind of surprises did they have this year? They had quite a few. With Danny Kolb, Podsednik and Burba. I would like to see Burba given another shot at starting. And I think Brooks Kieshniek should just be a pinch hitter for them. He's a much better hitter obviously then a pitcher.

The Brewers could go into next year with alot of potential, but I see them tearing apart before that even happens.

For the Brewers to stand a chance, they need pitching. Their lineup was pretty solid when healthy, but the pitching has been shaky. Let's be honest, Sheets isn't as great as some make him out to be. 4.45 ERA? Not impressive. He's a #3-4 pitcher on alot of teams. Doug Davis was the only other starting pitcher to finish the season with an ERA under 5...and he only pitched about a month here, so I don't know what you can take that for.

Danny Kolb was impressive, I think he can be a great closer, problem is that he needs something to close.

And really, he was the only bright spot in the bullpen(we had Leskanic, but then we traded him away of course).

I think if we keep our current team, call up a couple of young guys from the minors, and pick up a couple solid pitchers, we could be a contender in the NL Central. But I don't see that happening...

Chances are, Sexson won't even be around at the start of the upcoming season. I see him being traded away for prospects, and if he is around, it won't be for long. He'll likely be gone by the trade deadline. I'd like to say that it won't happen, but it will. Sexson will want too much money, and with Prince in the farm system, Richie will be expendable. And without Richie, our offense won't be that great.

The year I'm watching for the Brewers is 2005. By then, Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Martinez, and HOPEFULLY Weeks will be ready to join Podsednik, Helms, and HOPEFULLY Sheets and Jenkins on the team.

If our farm system develops like they expect, and we can at least hold onto our key players(with the exception of Richie), I think we have a shot to at least get around .500 by 2005. Yost is a great manager, I think he'll be great with the young players, hopefully it'll all turn out as planned, and if it does, hopefully Selig will finally open his...I mean "her" wallet to keep the team together.
