Yeah that was my thought when I read about it. That's some major investment in a guy! I think Pujols is one of the few players in the game that legitimately deserve that kind of term though.

How are the Marlins going to afford Pujols and Reyes, after the first couple years when fans won't be showing up to check out the new park anymore? It seems like people in Miami don't give a **** about the Marlins... I could be wrong tho... But wow if they get Pujols... Reyes - SS Bonifacio - CF Ramirez - 3B Pujols - 1B Stanton - RF Morrison - LF Buck - C Infante - 2B That is one hell of a lineup!!

There's quietly some thought going around that ownership will try to keep this new core together but if they can't well....They'll try to pawn these guys off to other teams for prospects like they did before.

I'm actually surprised that there's so much money being thrown around by the Marlins simply for the fact that there's a serious SEC investigation on the legalities of the financing for the new stadium.

Sorry for the double post but looks like the Blue Jays have their new closer:

Blue Jays trade prospect Nestor Molina to White Sox for Sergio Santos

Agent for Ramirez & Furcal is trying to convince the Brewers that both clients fit well with the Brewers... And I couldn't agree with him more... I would LOVE to add Ramirez and Furcal to the Brewers... Furcal - SS Hart - RF Braun - LF Ramirez - 3B Weeks - 2B Gamel - 1B Morgan - CF Lucroy - C Very nice and well balanced lineup!! Make it happen Dougie!!

I'd rather see Marlins go after a starter like Buehrle or Wilson than Pujols. I really don't think they will make the playoffs with Pujols. You have to be able to pitch just a little bit to get in. Aside from Johnson, they have nobody in their rotation and he's hurt all the time.

Also it sounds like the Tigers are the front runners on Cespedes. They want him and they want him bad. Can't wait til he can sign!

I'm just worried about Cespedes, he's already 26 and will demand top dollar. Then he'll probably need a year in the minors first from what I've read and that's a big risk to me.

Interesting. Some people are wondering whether maybe Jose Reyes's contract will be voided.

Orioles called the ChiSox about Danks and Floyd...I'd love to get Danks but if they really want a "Ubaldo Jimenez return" for him I'd tell them to GTFO.

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread

I just think the Marlins are screwing up. They disrespected Hanley big time.

He's been their franchise! He gave up free agency and signed a 6yr/70 million extension. He could have gotten 150+ on the open market.

So he's been their guy, he gave them a big discount by resigning fairly cheap before he hit the open market.

This is how you pay him back? Sign a lesser player for 50 million more and have him take his position?

I know Hanley has attitude problems, but I'm on his side here. Just because he's upset doesn't mean he's being immature. He was disrespected big time here. He didn't sign that cheap contract and expect to learn a new position so a lesser player could take his position at shortstop.

Why is it Hanley that should move? Neither of them exactly gold glove material.

It's one thing if Miami sat him down before hand and said hey, we want to bring in Reyes, would you be willing to move? It seems like the media has been the one negotiating. Florida hasn't really talked to him straight up from what it sounds like. It's gone through the media and his agent. It's been a messy situation from the start.

I think he has a right to be upset right now. That's all I'm saying. Once you get a rep as a 'cancer' every story that comes out is going to paint you as a horrible person. With this story here, he's being painted as nothing but selfish! When really, he was disrespected so he's rightfully upset.

And people won't realize that Reyes is as selfish as anybody. But he's getting everything he wants right now so the media will paint him as the choir boy in Miami.

It's sports, I personally believe Reyes is better at SS defensively then Hanley is and i'm sure that's how the Marlins see it as well. It's not about being fair, etc it's well playing to win the game.

Last year Hanley said he really wanted to get to the playoffs because he was tired of watching in October, well the Marlins went out to sign Jose Reyes and the potential for Albert Pujols is still out there. Add those 2 guys to a lineup that already featured Hanley, Stanton, and LoMo and you got the pieces for a championship run. If he's still whining about a position change if we sign Pujols then so be it, but then I will definitely think he's immature.
