Couldn't agree more, I don't have the foggiest idea what in the hell the Tigers think they're doing with third base.

There doesn't appear to be a logical explanation.

Dang is the Marlins farm system pretty bad now after recent callups, etc.

Christian Yelich I think could be really good for us in future, had a great 1st season in pro baseball.

Matt Dominguez even if he gets it clicking offensively could now be blocked at 3rd base despite his gold glove defense scouts are always raving over.

It's because they don't have the balls to release Inge. Every female in the state of Michigan wants a piece of Brandon Inge. They buy his jerseys, cheer the loudest for him. Jim Leyland loves him. They don't don't have the balls to let him go. Any other player would have been released after his 1st half.

He's been the worst hitter in baseball the past 10 years. But has stuck around somehow. A normal player would have been released after his horrible 07/08 seasons. One good half in 2009 earned him another 3 years of .210 hitting.

People have also glorified him as such a selfless, caring teammate. It's lies. He complained about losing his starting job when we got a 24 YEAR OLD MIGUEL CABRERA to play 3rd base, and Inge hit .211 the year before. He didn't think he should lose his job to a 24 year old who's heading straight for the Hall of Fame.

He's the poster boy for check swing strikeouts, over 100 years of baseball in Detroit and he leads the franchise in K's. Doesn't walk. Doesn't hit for average. Doesn't hit for average. Doesn't even play good defense anymore.

He.is.death. But they don't have the balls to cut him. He's got 1 year left on this deal. Even though he is still horrible, and 35, if he hits .250 he will probably get another new contract and I'm not even joking. Every baseball fan with common sense in Detroit sees Inge's check swing strikeout pose when they close their eyes.

One reason they let Betemit go is the same reason they platooned him and Inge in September, even though he was hitting great. "We Don't think he's an everyday player." The Tigers never let Santiago play everyday even if he's hitting .275 because "we don't think he's an everyday player." Even though stats never showed it.

And there is Inge...who hasn't been able to hit a beach ball from a RHP in 10 years (or from a LHP) and he's apparently viewed as "an everyday player." This stuff kills me. It's letting your heart get in the way of your head.

Inge must have pictures of Leyland smoking some Newport Lites or of Dombrowski using some cheap, knock off brand of hairspray.

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread

                So...

Does anyone here think that Seattle has any kind of shot to sign Prince Fielder? I doubt that the Mariners have any kind of real shot. He may have zero interest in coming to Seattle.

But, we could have "The King and the Prince." OK, that was lame. I know.

At first, I did not want the Mariners to pay big money to Fielder so he could just come over here and DH... I read an article by Jason A. Churchill at Prospect Insider that changed my mind a bit, though.

Why not Seattle? This is Jack Zduriencik's chance to add a star bat to a young lineup that will already include Jesus Montero and Dustin Ackley, and has pitching depth. We can talk all day about whether Fielder will be worth the contract -- he won't, unless winning the division and playing in October is worth tens of millions of dollars to the team. Oh, wait, it is.

Get Fielder to Seattle, show him why the city is great, show him why the team is being built properly and for the long haul, but also show him two other very important things: That 2012 is NOT a throw-away season if he's in uniform, and, of course, show him the money.

This may be Seattle's last chance to add such a free agent hitter in some time, as most of the future free agent bats are expected to, or already have, signed long-term deals, and even if they reach free agency in two or three years the M's may have to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox for their services.

The Mariners have a lot of cash coming off of the books next year (Ichiro and Figgins) and could possibly withstand the contract. The pitches that Ackley, Montero and Smoak could see with this guy in the middle of the order would be vast.

Not sure what that would mean defensively for the team, though. Maybe Montero can catch. Maybe you play both Fielder and Smoak at 1B/DH. One thing is for sure, it would give the Mariners' lineup a huge facelift.

This organization needs to show Felix Hernandez that they are willing to surround him with some offensive talent. Losing 1-0 and 2-1 games has to be wearing on him - going out there and knowing that if you give up a run or two means you'll likely lose the game has to be wearing him down.

Eventually, the M's will have a rotation of Felix, Danny Hultzen, James Paxton, Taijuan Walker... An possibly an offense that consists of Ackley, Fielder, Montero and Smoak. Not a bad young group of guys to build around.

I realize it probably won't happen, but one can dream. His left-handed bat would play very well in Safeco. I know it's not a hitters park, but for left-handed mashers, he could still put up some monster numbers despite playing 81 games a season there.

That being said, I really think that they are out on Fielder. I'd love to see him play for the Nationals though.

EDIT: After reading quotes from the Smurf (Evan Grant) and Jon Heyman, it seems that the amount of years and a lack of need were the biggest obstacles for Fielder coming here.

Every team has a Brandon Inge but not every team has management and the on field manager buying into the hype/love as much. When the Jays had John McDonald there would be people calling into the postgame shows saying he should start at SS or 3B fer cryin' out loud! It seems there's always a segment of the fandom that goes ga ga for the guy who can't hit his weight.

At least with Johnny Mac he has a Gold Glove type of glove with him.

This is so true, they give him chance after chance. He does tease you once in awhile with the odd Mammoth home run. Plus he used to be able to run quite well. But yeah cant see why hes still around at all.
Good for my Indians though so no complaints here
