who is mendoza??

First of all my cousins are in the Mendoza family, so I feel weird when i hear this stuff:

when a player strikes out 4-5times in a game, they call it the golden sombrero.
when a pitcher goes 3 innings, gives up 12 runs, and gives up 4 HR's, they say "and he just threw a mendoza out there."

was there a MLB pitcher named Mendoza who sucked, and struck out all the time, in the past? this is weird

I've heard of the Mendoza line, for batters batting around .200, but not in the instance you're referring to. Here's a link to the Mendoza line.
