Re: where are the preview mags?
Yeah I was wondering the same, on the sporting news website store they don't even have a yearbook listed just a fantasy magazine. I know that there usually outdated by the time we get them but its nice to have something to read before ball season. -
Re: where are the preview mags?
I'm surprised people still buy these. I used to buy an athlon and Lindys every year. But it all seems pointless, when a big trade or free agent is signed it makes alot of the written article irrelevant. Especially now with everything we can access on the internet.Comment

Re: where are the preview mags?
I picked up Lindy's at the Airport on Friday because I was bored and needed some reading material. It was behind as it was written before the Prince Fielder deal and some other deals, like the Reds signing Ryan Madson. An article about the Red's talked about how crucial it was for them to pick up a closer, well they did awhile ago lol.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

I wait for SI's baseball preview issue... Cuz that one comes out a week or so before Opening Day so they at least have updated information on teams.Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment

Re: where are the preview mags?
Sporting News has discontinued preview magazines. I'd be surprised if TSN lasts more than a year or two. First, they swallowed Street and Smith's. I want to say their college football or recruiting issue was their last magazine.
But yeah, I decided any mag with Fielder on the Tigers I would buy. None of them have it. Quite a shame. Although the times have passed them, the preview magazine was a staple of the new season I'd always partake. After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment

Re: where are the preview mags?
I tend to get the Athlon mag every year. I haven't gotten it yet this year though, and am debating whether or not I even need it, given it's probably already outdated :P
I understand the desire to have one, but you can generally find the same info online for free.-the least famous person you've never heard of.Comment

Re: where are the preview mags?
i was in the supermarket the other day and saw 'Who's Who'.
memories came flooding back.
the cover is the same.
same font.
same black and white.
inside is the same as well..
just a book of stats.
i used to love it as a kid, glad to see its still kicking, even in an age where those stats [and more] are available at the touch of a button on the web.
but back in the day, outside of baseball cards, THAT book was where you found out what Ron Hassey's Slugging % was.
the good old days.Comment

Re: where are the preview mags?
I usually get the preview mags but I'm not bothering this year. Decided to get the Baseball Prospectus instead, alongside the 2012 Bill James book.
Any other books that people recommend? I'm tempted by the Baseball America prospect handbook.Comment

Yeah the preview magazines would always be a big part of a new season, either football, hockey and baseball. But I would always get 4 or 5 baseball ones for sure but in the last few years all the info we need is right here on our computers. I never knew that the sporting news discontinued there yearbooks.UofM-Duluth Bulldogs HockeyComment
