Re: Gammons on Dan Patrick Show - possible trade

The trade in the first post is rather interesting. I don't know if i'd make that move if I were the Expos. I know that Frank Robinson would be going ballistic everytime Soriano strikes out on pitches he should be swinging on

I think it's a bit TOO much talent the 'spos would be giving up for guys that have the potential but could easily just fizzle out. Also where the heck are the Yankees gonna come up with "two young pitchers" when their minor league system must be pretty drained by now.

The Expos have to balance out being cheap and being good so that a potential owner would buy them and see some success early on.

excellent point.....the Yankees dont HAVE any young pitching prospects after dumping Claussen for the great Aaron Boone....and while all the players mentioned here are quality, the Expos are getting screwed on this deal and could a lot better in return for those 2 players, that is if theyre determined to move them....realistically, MLB should just bite the bullet another year until they relocate, theyve got a potentially great squad over there, just needs a home

I fail to see how the Expos are getting screwed here. Personally, if the Yankees trade Soriano and Johnson, Steinbrenner should be shot. You DON'T trade guys who are almost 40-40 two years in a row. People fail to realize that just because you do badly in ONE year of playoffs, it doesn't make you a bust. Bonds sucked in the playoffs before last year- would you not want him on your team? As for Johnson, he's shown that he's a quality hitter and a good fielder. If you're looking at what people will do in the playoffs, who knows how Vidro and Vazquez will fare in the playoffs. Giving up on young talent is what has gotten the Yanks into the mess they're in right now. Maybe for once we'll actually keep our young players and try to develop another "core" for the future, but it's sounding doubtful.

theres going to be insane amounts of speculation about all things Yankee for the foreseeable future thanks to King George....ive never been a fan of Nick Johnson, but i dont see how trading Soriano is in any way positive.....fomr what im told here at work, one of the NY sportwriters even has a plan in todays paper that has A-Rod coming to the Bronx.....so take all this for what its worth, fun at the expense of George Steinbrenner

                        Pretty close.

Mike Cameron's OPS has gone down each of the last three seasons and this is his lowest since 1998. He failed to break 20 HRs and 80 RBIs. And he has averaged 156 strike outs per year his last 3 seasons while missing 30+ games due to injuries. He can't hit well, and he had some good players around him in that Mariners line up.

He isn't as fast as he was before, and his SB % and totals have been dropping.

Yes, he still has good range. And makes some good plays at the deep fences of Safeco, but he has regressed in every way. But he isn't gold glove, and he will be 31 by the time next season rolls around.

He will probably be looking for a big contract, and I don't think he deserves it.

Take him...I don't know about other M's fans but he is overrated. Yeah his defense is very good but he can't hit worth anything. He has a streak every year where he goes on a tear for about a week or two and then is dead the rest of the year. I'd much rather let him go and try and get a better hitting centerfielder or possibly move either Ichiro or Winn to center. I think Winn played center in Tampa but not sure. Just my two cents....

I agree. He is garbage. He can't hit at all, and hes getting older. Yes he has good range, but his arm is average, and he has regressed the last few years.

                            Mike Cameron is garbage? really.

He isn't garbage. Now is he worth resiging for 8 million? no. If he didn't have to hit at safeco his numbers would be dramatically different. Of course he still has that gold glove to rely on.
