i just read about a trade of Johnson and Weaver for Vazquez. I would like that more than the other one. Soriano Matsui and a FA in outfeild, we would need to pick up Kaz and Lowell to fill out the other positions. Bernie would have to DH. and Colon could still be an option in case Leiber isnt ready or to sure up the bullpen with Contreras. The yankees with a starting rotation with Andy, Moose, Vazquez, Colon, and Lieber or Contreras would be devastating.

Pitching, pitching, and more pitching. You could start with Prior.

exactly, it would take so much pitching to pry A-Rod outta the Rangers that you'd basically end up trading places with them...by that i mean the Cubs would become the Rangers, which is, in modern baseball, a fate worse than death

I could see the Cubs part with Wood, Clement, Farnsworth, and Cruz or Zambrano (not both) to get A-Rod...if the Cubs were interested.

Farns would be their closer immediatly and Wood, Clement, Cruz or Zambrano would soldify that starting rotation immediatly. Cubs have enough pitching in the minors (Luke Haggerty, Bobbie Brownlie, Andy Sisc, Angel Guzman, Jae Kuk Ryu, Justin Jones) to recover rather quickly from the deal. Guzman will be a starter next year if the Cubs don't go after a lefty starter in the off season.

Haggerty , Jones, Ryu, and Brownlie should be up in the majors by 2005 or 2006. Four real stud pitchers. Haggerty is a 6'6 lefty that people say remind them of Mark Mulder (that the ball just tends to come out nice and easy but explodes) Jones is just a rock and fire guy who would be an ideal relief man. Brownlie is a Mussina type pitcher with a awesome knuckle curve. And Ryu is the best pitcher to come out of Korea. They say he has early Chan Ho Park stuff but a better concentration and better sinker.

Sisco will be up in 2007 or 2008 and is a 6'9 lefty with a power fastball and power slider.

I don't think it would happen but the Cubs have enough pitchers to make the deal if they want him.

That would be the problem. None of those guys are close to the majors. Brownlie will probably advance the fastest barring injury. Yet he is still atleast a year away. On the other hand, MAN does our future look bright. Haggerty is 3 years away. He was hurt all year I think. Angel Guzman will be coming off of surgery. So who know how he will bounce back. Besides those guy we also have Todd Wellemeyer who is not a slouch either. More than likely a trade would have to center around Wood, Cruz, and pitching prospects.

BTW, why are we even talking about this. Who honestly thinks any team would make a run at ARod and pull it off. This is probably worthless dreaming.
