Should MLB Make all HS players play at least 1 or 2 years of college.

Before anything else.......... i know that my writing is horrible so just role with it.

If you want to play in the NFL or the NBA u'll need to play at least 1 years at college but in baseball you can go straight up to the minors or play college (in which you'll need to complete at least 2 years before heading to the draft).

i've been developing this idea that the MLB should make every single HS player, play at least 2 years of baseball in college before heading to the draft. There are a lot of reasons that makes me believe that the MLB should implement this.First, the reason that College baseball isn't that good (beside the aluminium bat) is that almost all big baseball HS prospect goes straight up to the minor and don't play college. Because of this college baseball doesn't have a lot of big talents and is preventing college baseball to get biger. Second, We all know that most of the kid who sign from Hs to the minor take atleast 3,4 years to get called up to the big (unless you'r very good) since most player take at least 3 to 4 years to get called up, they can be in college and earn a education while playing baseball. third, as we all know you can be a huge prospect but fail and be a nobody in the Bigs, now if that prospect would have gone to college before signing with the team right after HS they could do something else with their lifes and not spend all that money that they earned when they signed with the team on school again (if the money hasn't been wasted) there are a lot of more reason to implement the rule of making everyone go to college before entering the draft, but these are a few.

Now i know there are a lot of down side to this, like what about the kids who don't have the money to go to college (well, what if the Ncaa, or what ever program makes an agreement with MLB to give more scholarship to the kids who want to play baseball).

These are some of the good thing and bad thing in implementing this rule, but i just want to know what you guys think of this, should MLB make all HS player play at least two years of college baseball or not and some of the bad or good thing if these were to be implemented

I think its fine the way it is, you can go pro after high school or from juco at any time but if you go to a regular university you have to stay until your junior year at least before turning pro.

If you are a good enough prospect you're smart to go for it out of high school, get a jump start on your pro career and you can be on the fast track to making big money at the pro level as opposed to 3-4 years in college then probably at least 2 more in the minors before you're in the show.

Lots of times when a guy is drafted from high school a team will write into his contract that they'll pay for his schooling if baseball doesn't work out (I'm sure this is mostly with the more highly regarded guys but it makes their decision easier since they can still fall back on a degree eventually if baseball doesn't work out).

Personally I think the NBA should get rid of their age limit, a lot of their biggest stars came straight out of high school. NFL age limit is the only one I'm in favor of and I think it works, a skinny 18 year old would get broken in half on an NFL field, 3-4 years in a college weight room and they're physically ready for the NFL.
    Favorite Teams:
NCAA- University of Illinois Fighting Illini
    NFL- Cleveland Browns
    MLB- St. Louis Cardinals
    NBA- Boston Celtics
    NHL- Chicago Blackhawks

No, MLB has a minor league system that the NFL and NBA don't.

You also run into the problem of what if the player is just plain dumb and cant go to college? lol. Also with D1 Baseball only giving what 13 scholarships total you run into what about players who cant afford college? People dont realize that even the D1 stars usually arent on full scholarships.

The way it is right now is just fine. The minor league system is set up so that prospects can mature and grow before getting into the majors. It is a replacement for the college system only they can make money. I am never against people making except when one person is making it all. And prospects spend approx. 4-5 yrs in the minors regardless of whether they go to school or not. So you might as get a head start if you can.

No, you're always going to find a phenom that goes out of high school and make it to the Majors or at the very least spend one year in the minors and hit the MLB roster. Besides that, MLB has the minor leagues and i'm pretty sure that by now there's some kind of optional schooling program for those who decided to go pro but still want to pursue some semblance of an education.

Exactly, you're not setting HS kids up for failure in quite the same way. And if you get drafted out of HS you get a signing bonus you can pay for college with.

This is my entire problem with college sports, these guys aren't students they're athletes. I love college sports , because schools compete , that's what they do. But let's not pretend everyone on most teams would bother with college otherwise.

What would you do with the international kids who don't speak a lick of English and their country doesn't have the collegiate baseball programs the States has?

                  Baseball does it right.

No for all the reasons mentioned.

I don't think that really has any impact on the popularity of college baseball.

You'd lose a ton of the multi-sport athletes to the full scholarship sports by doing this.

People don't like college baseball because low quality baseball is flat out not fun to watch.

Put it another way, people aren't burning through the gates a Rookie Ball stadiums, or A ball stadiums, or even AA ball stadiums.

That's actually not true, at all.

In fact, I'm willing to bet it takes one trip to Omaha from tOSU before you start tuning in full time the next season

Yeah, I don't agree with this either. The play in college is actually quite good for their level of expertise, and there are prospects that do play at that level. Even with that, the Frisco RoughRiders brought in around 7,200 per game to watch them play (in a 10,000 seat stadium). There is interest in these levels.

I am a gigantic MLB fan and watch about 200 regular season game per year, a mix of any Rays game I can and anything else that interests me. Gotta love MLB.TV man.

Having said that, you couldn't pay me to sit through an entire college baseball game. The aluminum bat and the general lack of skill across the board kills my interest.

The piss poor attendance numbers for college baseball across the board prove that I am not alone in that line of thinking either.

Minor league baseball games, on the other hand, can be quite fun.
