No, AI. Just because this is the first time you've heard of Beltran doesn't mean it's his 'breakout season'. Yeah, his OPS went up 50 points. It was also at .876 in 2001. Hank Blaylock's OPS rose from .632 to .872 this season-- THAT is a breakout season. Derek Jeter's OPS rose from .794 to .844... I guess this last season was Jeter's break-out year, too? No, it wasn't. And this wasn't Beltran's break-out year either. He's been great for a while now. Glad you've noticed.

The scouting report above leaves out one important factor. DEFENSE. Soriano sucks. Beltran plays a premium position and plays it above average. And I'll say it again, just because he's getting older doesn't mean Soriano is going to mature. Beltran showed improvements, obviously, in his plate discipline and pitch recognition-- the numbers show it. The numbers show Soriano swings at everything. All the time. We've all seen him enough to know he makes no adjustments at the plate. I think I'm on the same page as the Yankee brass and a good portion of their fan base when I make the assertion that he never will mature at the plate.

Soriano's defense is poor, but it's not as bad as you may think.

As for the trade, it's half and half between us. Half of Yankees like it and half don't. You know what percentage I'm in, and it's not going to change anytime soon. I'll stick with my fave Yankee, or shall I say our next Vlad-Sosa
      combo.

I don't wish to see Beltran a Yankee either, so I guess we agree on that issue.

You compare Soriano to Guerrero. I'd say Juan Samuel. Guerrero can take that outside slider and make something happen. Soriano does a windmill impression. But hey, kudos for sticking by your man, AI. I'm only trying to help.

Vlad/Sosa combo = Speed/Power. He has the speed of Vlad, and the same problem that Sosa had in his early days.
Not to mention both players are free swingers.

And I do like Beltran. I like to see him in our CF next season. Just don't want to acquire him on the expense of Sori.

I like that deal...Is there a player with less plate discipline than Randall Simon?Soriano and that is saying something since Simon had like 8 walks...Not to mention that he plays BRUTAL defense...This makes a lot of sense IMHO especially if they make a run at Lowell and put boone at 3rd...This easily makes them one of the best defensive infields in Baseball(Giambi being at DH)
