I've got one for you guys.
My girlfriend is 36 now. She grew up in a small town in Indiana west of Gary just over the Illinois border. One day when she was about 11 years old her class took a field trip to see the Cubs at Wrigley. Before the game, the kids got to go down on the field and they all had their little school folders, binders and what have you and all got them signed by some of the players. She had mentioned that to me years ago when we first started dating and basically it was left at that.
Fast forward a few years until last year when she was moving out of her apartment into a house. Well, while she was packing she found her little folder from the 6th grade with the autographs on it and put it to the side so I could see it because she knows I am a huge baseball fan and I had name dropped Ryne Sandberg as one of the guys that would likely be on the folder and he was one of my favorite players growing up.
Low and behold, I give a quick scan of the folder and some BIG names popped out at me: Ryne Sandberg, Greg Maddux, Andre Dawson, Rafael Palmeiro, Rick Sutcliffe, Lee Smith, etc. etc. I was absolutely floored! I told her how awesome that it was that she got to experience that even though she was so young at the time and didn't understand that magnitude of it. Hell, now as an adult she had even heard of guys like Sandberg, Maddux and Dawson and was pretty surprised herself that their John Hancock's were present and accounted for on her 6th grade class folder.
But that wasn't even the most amazing thing about it. Not by a long shot.
Upon further review I noticed a really small signature in one of the bottom corners of said folder. It was pretty legible even though it was very small in stature. It read, plain as day: Jamie Moyer.
My jaw dropped.
I said, "Uh, hey, babe. This little signature right here... it says 'Jamie Moyer' you know?"
"Who the hell is Jamie Moyer?" she asked.
"A guy who STILL PLAYS ****ING BASEBALL!" I replied.
"No ****ing way." she said.
I then proceeded to show her online that Mr. Moyer was, in fact, still a part of a MLB roster.
Absolutely astonishing. Just blows my mind.
The next time I am at her house I am going to scan this folder for you guys to see if you'd like.
