Lincecum going through a dead arm phase? Seems to be relying on his change-up much more than Im used to

They asked the Giants pitching coach and they said they want his slider less involved since its rough on him. Another graphic they put up was the % of pitches from last year and compared it to his top seasons. 60+% fastball down to low 50's and the velocity has gone down every year.

Interesting conversation about Lincecum, I think he went through a bit of a dead arm phase in the middle portion of last season so this isn't surprising. If it's true what the pitching coach says about the slider than said pitching coach isn't doing a good job. I'll cite a couple examples that have to do with Blue Jays pitchers:

1- Henderson Alvarez had to make adjustments on the grip with his sinking pitches as it was putting a lot of pressure and torque on his arm. Once he made that change his pitching made an improvement and he's able to get arm in a slot where it isn't as dangerous to his arm. This change actually wasn't initiated by the Jays but rather Felix Hernandez when the two met each other., Of course, the Jays allowed this change to happen so it's all good.

2- Kyle Drabek's fastball last year was far too straight and he was given a cutter to work with which so far has proven to be a very good pitch for him and has a TON of movement. He was also falling off the mound to the 1st base side way too often and thus he worked on getting his mechanics right by doing a drill where there'd be ropes on the mound and his body would be aligned in the direction of the ropes. As we saw last night he's made great improvement on his delivery.

So there are some things they can do for Lincecum like adding a pitch/changing arm slot or changing his delivery mechanics in a way that would put less pressure on the arm.

Man, I expect that kind of outfield play from Kyle Blanks or Jesus Guzman, not a former centerfielder.

Red Sox don't look too much different from September. Pitching could use some work but thats only one of the issues. 1-5 start no bueno.

And ugh signed up for fanduel but comes to find out for the cash leagues TD Bank doesn't allow that site.

Raul Ibanez should send him a thank you card for that one. Up until this he had the Trojan "Boner of the Week" award for outfield play all but locked up.
