Ain't nobody worried about CJ. The guy would be a #2 here like he was the past 3 years. Colby Lewis earned the #1 role, what did CJ do in his time here to still be the ACE had he come back other than being paid so much money he'd have to be the Ace by default?
Let's keep to the point though... they wanted CJ last night because the guy basically took the easy way out last night, left 3 runners on base and essentially put Jerome Williams in a bad situation. Meanwhile Yu Darvish stays warm and comes out and pitches even pointing towards the Angels bullpen like who the hell is that warming up?
Sure the Angels didn't have to pitch CJ. You had options. It'd be just as easy to bring him in today... but do you really want your pitcher campaigning to STAY out of the game? I'd rather have the guy begging to comeback. Shows leadership, character, and the inner intangiables you can't scout. Things CJ lacked for us in his time here when it mattered.
Also you gotta keep in mind, it was a May sellout, nobody showed up sat through rain to watch Jerome Williams and Scott Feldman pitch. That crowd was for CJ whether positive or negative and he bailed on them.
Look at these quotables from the players first the Rangers then the Angels:
"I was really proud of him coming back out there and sticking it out," Hamilton said. "It says a lot to his teammates about him."
"Coming back from the rain delay was the biggest thing," infielder Michael Young said. "It gives us a chance to save our bullpen. We're in a stretch right now where we're going to have to use a spot starter next week. For him to come back after a long delay shows what he's made of. As a teammate, you definitely appreciate that."
"We kept him warm and we kept him throwing," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He wanted to pitch. He said he showed up to pitch. He didn't show up to throw one inning and call it quits. Everybody was on board with that. He was mentally into pitching.
"I liked his guts. I like the fact he knew we got in late last night, it was his turn to pitch and he was ready to pitch."
I expected to stay in the game," Darvish said. "No matter how long the delay was, I expected to keep myself ready to pitch. Mentally I was focused all the time."
