Phillies fans: What's wrong with Halladay?

I know that Halladay is still a very good pitcher but at times this year he's seemed very hittable and getting knocked around more this year than he has since early in his career. I know there were velocity concerns in the spring so is his velocity still not where it should be? I've heard the suggestion that perhaps Doc should change some of his workout routine and what he does between starts.

    So LMK what's going on.

I think like Lincecum the innings pitched are beginning to catch up with them. They do not skip starts and never injured and pitch playoff games on short rest.

It was announced during the game today that Halladay has been having shoulder soreness. Pitching coach Rich Dubee used the word "cranky" shoulder to describe it. Halladay said he started feeling it halfway through his last start against the Nationals.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious and he'll only need to miss a start or two, but it is definitely something to keep an eye on.

We already have Kyle Kendrick filling a spot in the rotation for Vance Worley, and they're not even sure when he'll be back either.

For the Phillies to be over .500 and only 5 games back in the division with all the problems they've had this year so far is amazing. When everyone gets back healthy, they'll make their way back to the top of the division.

Like stated above Halladay has had lingering shoulder problems and overall until yesterday he wasn't pitching that bad. His FIP, and xFIP were around where they should be, he was still playing like an ace even if his ERA didn't show it. Yesterday was a meltdown however but it was probably from the issues not that fact that he lost his abilities.

Yeah, he could be having health issues with his shoulder. In terms of peripherals, his fastball velocity has dropped and his control has gotten worse; both of those would go well with a shoulder injury. Even guys like Halladay get banged up.

Yeah Lincecum has just suffered a massive drop in velocity this year and his control is downright awful. I don't see him turning it around before the season is over.

Thanks for the info guys, I knew that there were some issues with his shoulder but didn't know he was having shoulder soreness. I'm really a big fan of Halladay so I want to see him performing well and being 100% healthy.

If you look at his pitch types from F/X, they don't list one straight FB for him and the graphs seem to bear that out. He's been trying to put movement on everything, which may have signaled that he wasn't trusting his velocity for some reason:

Halladay is expected to be out for 8 wks with a lat strain. Thought it was a shoulder issue so I guess it being a back issue is better than an arm issue?
