From 2010 to 2012, Derek Hollan's FIP is 4.07, same as Jason Vargas and Carlos Zambrano and around the level of Ricky Romero (4.06), Clayton Richard (4.04), Josh Beckett (4.00), and Carl Pavano (4.09). In that three-year time span his K/9 is 7.68, right around where Wandy Rodriguez, Dan Haren, and Madison Bumgarner.

With all of the injuries the Rangers have had (Holland's illness/shoulder, Ogando's groin, Feliz's elbow) this signing looks better and better. I'm just curious to see what the Rangers do before Oswalt is ready. Will they stretch Robbie Ross out and let him go 4-5 innings per start? Or will they clear room on the 40 and let Justin Grimm get a spot start?

Hindsight my be 20/20, but you should never sign a player just because there is a potential injury. And remember when Oswalt would be ready for this Saturday? Yeah, it's not going to happen.

The best option for Saturday is to let Kirkman go for as many innings as his arm will allow and then go to Ross. Moving Grimm to the forty-man while starting his major league clock is a bad choice.

Perfect zero, why don't you trust Rangers brass? I don't expect any fan to blindly accept what management does, but they know the club and the pieces much better than any of us. I trust Ryan-Daniels-Washington. Back to back pennants.

Glad to see the ol country bumpkin back to his craft. Always been one of my favorite pitchers.

I went to his first game as a Ranger and he did very good. Got a nice big standing ovation when he left. This signing looks to be solid so far. Especially since we have gone through 10 starting pitchers.

I trust people but to a point. Nobody saw that the rotation was going to go down in flames; Daniels is great but not that great. Ryan was the main guy pushing this through, and I don't trust Ryan to make front office decisions of any type. If Daniels wants to do it, it should be his call and shouldn't be Ryan's call, nor Simpson or Davis' call.

Grimm came up and had a hell of a game against the Astros. We saw what the second game had and it's more true to the type of pitcher that he is right now. There was no reason to start burning time on his contract. And when we have a young guy up here, there's no reason to burn another contract with Perez unless these kids are trade bait (and they could be, who knows). Like I said, hindsight is 20/20. The Rangers look like they made all of the right moves with the Oswalt signing, but it took a freak stomach virus, Feliz's arm going to ****, and National League clownball in order for it to work.

You'd better hope that Daniels has more control over the team than folding to Ryan over Oswalt. When Hamilton comes up for contract renewals, you'd better hope that if Simpson really wants him, he writes the check out from his personal wallet. The only peoples that should be making FO decisions is Jon Daniels and Thad Levine. Washington, Ryan, Simpson and Davis are not qualified to do so.
