    Devil Rays add Pitching

the Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed pitchers Paul Abbott and John Halama to one year contracts, reuniting them with former manager Lou Pinella, they will both likely be in the starting rotation next season, Lou is trying to get the Devil Rays to spend some money to be more competitive, there's the rumored trade for Tino Martinez, and Mark McLemore (both formerly played for Pinella) is on Pinella's wish list, the team would also like to add a third baseman (Joe Randa, Tony Batista) and an outfielder (Jose Cruz Jr., Jeromy Burnitz, if a miracle happens Gary Sheffield), they could also use some help in the bullpen.

Sounds like they're going in the absolute right direction. These two will no doubt help them win alot more games, Halama will probably be a REALLY big factor for the team. If they were even able to get McLemore, Burnitz, Tino, and possibly Randa, that would be incredibly awesome. Actually, I'm willing to bet getting McLemore will be really easy, but everyone else will be hard. Kind of cool really, McLemore has been awesome under Pinella, it'd actually be really awesome to see him in a D-Rays uniform. I knew Lou could shake things up, even in one of the worst teams in all of the MLB! However, the D-Rays get Sheffield?

    Don't lie to yourself, man.

good for Tampa....the AL East needs, desperately, for there to be more than 2 teams with a chance to win each year...im all for it.....Piniella will definitely turn this team around, but its only year two, so theres quite a bit of work to be done, and you never know when the owner decides to cry poverty and pull the rug out from under him either....on another note, Burnitz can be had easily i would think, all he's done in the last couple years is decrease his market value....if someone shows early interest, they probably get him rather cheap

Why would Tampa try and bring in older, high priced FAs?

Didn't they already try that when they first became a team?

They will build from the ground up. Younger guys.

The younger guys cost more, they might bring in one or two experienced players that Pinella has experience with to help things along, and Burnitz had an awesome second half, better than anyone expected, so I doubt he'd be just that easy to get. I'm not saying it will be overwhelmingly difficult, I'm just saying that it won't be ALL that easy.
