Anyone want a 3rd base coach who would gladly send a slow runner coming off of a serious Achilles injury home on a shallow hit ball to a CF'er with a good arm in a 1 run game? Because I think he's gonna be available.

Marlins won 9-5 today, Carlos Lee hit his 17th career grand slam and Hanley hit an absolute laser of a line drive HR to CF.

I've always wondered how much work base coaches put into their duties. Do they watch film, scout outfielder arms, do situational practice?

Does anyone know?

Tim Flannery (Giants 3rd base coach) does a lot of stuff, I know that for sure. I think they have certain "stopwatch" times for players, however it may be. But yeah, I don't think a single one goes in their box without knowing a thing or two about the opposing team's outfielders.

Anyway, the Flan Man is one of the best third base coaches in the business. He's very... I don't know the word... active when he's out there.

Guthrie: 2.2 IP, 6 hits, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 HR. 68 pitches

Last time he went a game without giving up a run was from the bullpen, both games were away. Must be the plan to completely wreck any value he may have had.
