    Better player?

On one site I'm on, its sorta a small debate over who is better. I'm saying Crawford(almost .300 hitter, great base stealer, 4 time all star, silver slugger, gold glove among other stuff), but others are saying Justin Upton.

Who do people on here say is the better player, and why?

On a level of pure talent it's got to be Justin Upton. Legitimate 5 tool player.

Well, i look at it as a "what have you done for me lately?"
2011, Upton was an All Star, this year struggling but then again, what has Crawford done this year? Injured, so nothing and last year was paid $20 mil to OPS below .700 and steal 18 bases.

I would have to say Crawford. I'm not as high on Justin Upton as many others seem to be. He's never really impressed me besides last year. IMO he's a lot like his brother. Shows flashes of brilliance but cannot stay consistent. And I don't know if you can hold Crawford's injuries against him when he's put up great numbers while he's been healthy.

Do you mean by career numbers and such?

            Re: Better player?

Talent wise, it can't even be questioned that Justin Upton is the better player. He is one of the few legit 5 tool players that exists today. Production wise is where things get tricky.

Crawford as been bad and injured in the last season and a half with Boston, Upton had a hell of a season last year and has scuffled a little this year. But is still hitting .273 with 7 HR and 37 RBI. Not a god awful season by any stretch of the imagination.

If this is a career achievement award, Crawford wins. But keep in mind that Upton is 24, while Crawford is 30. So career awards and accolades are unfair to compare at this point.

Personally, I'd take Upton, because he's 6 years younger and is a proven 5 tool player. His upside is unbelievable and I'd take that over Crawford who is on the decline. Some may take Crawford, because he's been a consistent threat, and because Upton is related to Mr. Inconsistency over there in Tampa, and I wouldn't fault them for it at all. It comes down to a personal preference at the end of the day.

              162 game averages...

              Crawford
              191 hits,99 runs,77 RBI,14 HR,51 steals,.293 AVG,.333 OBP,.441 slugging 98% fielder

              Upton
              163 hits,95 runs,82 RBI,24 HR,18 steals,.276 AVG,.357 OBP,.477 slugging,98% fielder

...I'd call it a draw. But if I was taking one for my team I'd take Upton.

                Re: Better player?

Upton is a better athlete and has all 5 tools. Carl Crawford stock isn't particularly high with me right now because he's been hurt. Crawford at one point did have the tools but after these injuries I don't see him being the same.

Crawford is also kind of on the decline. At 30 years old his numbers are barely better than Upton's at 24.
