    Who won the deal?

    Jays get:
    J.A. Happ
    Brandon Lyon
    David Carpenter

    Astros get:
    Ben Francisco
    Francisco Cordero
    Asher Wojiechowski
    Joe Musgrave
    David Rollins
    Carlos Perez
    player to be named later

From a Jays perspective, getting rid of the 2 MLB players really isn't important in the deal. Cordero sucked(was reason Jays lost at least 5 games this season), Francisco wasn't really important part on bench(and Jays have lots of OF).

Main thing is the 4 prospects Jays gave up. 3 of which are around top 10 prospects in Jays system.

Sure, they did get Lyons who is a good reliever, Carpenter who could be a good reliever(had 1 good and 1 bad season), but Happ seems to be the big question in this deal and will be deciding factor on who wins.

If he plays like he did in Philly, then Jays win. If he plays like he did in Houston, then Astros win.

    Happ:
ERA around 3.60 with run support of 3+ runs, and ERA over 5.20 with 0-2 runs support.

In past 2 seasons while with Astros(with 0-2 run support) he went 3-19 with ERA over 5.70

He played 46 games with Astros in those 2 seasons. So 22/46 games with basically no run support must really suck.

Jays of course are one of MLBs best run scoring teams, so Happ will get the run support, and seems like his confidence in pitching really depends on how his team preforms. So hopefully he does play like he did in Philly(also having lots of run support there)

    Re: Who won the deal?

Well Alex Anthopoulos admitted that the prospects that were given up were not their top guys so he felt comfortable giving them up. He did say they could end up being alright in the big leagues if they make it that far but they were no great loss in the grand scheme of things.

I'm of the belief that Happ can turn it around in Toronto as he'll get more run support and while the AL East is tough it's not like he's never pitched in a tough division before as he's pitched against a lot of good hitters in the NL East and Central in his career. He's still young enough that he can be salvaged.

Simple. Any team that gets Francisco Cordero loses the trade.

I just like that the Astros got back a lot more players. Never know if one of those guys ends up being a major surprise. . . .
