Bartolo Colon fails MLB drug test; in line for 50-game suspension

    CBS Sports

Veteran Oakland Athletics pitcher Bartolo Colon failed an MLB drug test and is subject to a 50-game suspension, CBSSports.com has learned.

Colon resurrected his career after a controversial stem-cell treatement. He is 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA for the A's this year after going 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA with the Yankees last year.

Colon's suspension comes on the heels of the 50-game suspension for Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera.

I'm not surprised at all. I'm just surprised that these guys continue to get caught. I still think more guys are beating the system than anyone wants to admit.

Either they mixed up his weight with his testosterone levels or he ate Melky Cabrera. So much for that stem cell stuff.

Victor Conti was recently quoted as saying he believes half of MLB are still on PEDs of one kind or another.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Big blow for the A's though.

People might scoff at him, but I believe him. He's made a career out of this sort of thing.

On a related note; somebody needs to shut Skip Bayless up already. What a crackpot.

He's resorted to accusing Jeter for those who don't watch useless shows. (Not that I do. I just read it on my phone's news feed.)

                    Refresh my memory:

Has there been a player that makes a great great deal amount of money and has been caught red-handed using PEDs?

I don't mean guys like Clemens or Alex Rodriguez. Both were accused after the fact and for ARod it was more a PR move to just admit it and get it behind him.

Hmm, but he got out of it. Interesting point. How many years into his deal was he last year?

Manny wasn't making Boston or LA money anymore, I don't think.

I don't know where I'm going with this. Just curious.

His first suspension was in LA, 50 games in '09, costing him $7.7 million of his $25-million salary (estimated salary).
